Box Ships APL Denver and Wan Hai 301 Collided

The container carriers APL Denver and Wan Hai 301 collided off Pasir Gudang Port in Johor, Malaysia, resulting in an oil spill. Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it was notified by the Johor Port Authority (JPA) of a collision between Singapore-registered container vessel Wan Hai 301 and Gibraltar-registered container vessel APL Denver. In a statement, MPA said the master of APL Denver reported that one of the vessel's bunker tanks sustained damage, causing a spillage of about 300 tonnes of oil. JPA has deployed four anti-pollution craft on site and an oil boom around APL DENVER to contain the oil spill. In Singapore, some oil patches were spotted and the spillage has been contained off the western side of Pulau Ubin.

Oil Spill after two Container Vessels Collide near Johar

At about 2350 hrs on 3rd January 2017, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was notified by the Johor Port Authority (JPA) of a collision between Singapore-registered container vessel WAN HAI 301 and a Gibraltar-registered container vessel APL DENVER off Pasir Gudang Port, Johor Malaysia. The Master of APL DENVER reported that one of her bunker tanks sustained damage resulting in approximately 300 tonnes of oil spillage. JPA has deployed four anti-pollution craft on site and an oil boom around APL DENVER to contain the oil spill. In Singapore, some oil patches were spotted and the spillage has been contained off the western side of Pulau Ubin. MPA has activated a total of eight anti-pollution craft with dispersant spraying capabilities to clean up the spilled oil.

Joe Barton: Lift Oil Export Ban

A senior U.S. Congressman from Texas has come out in full support of the United States lifting the 40-year old ban on crude oil exports, putting him at odds with fellow House Republicans wary of weighing in on the controversial issue. CEO of IMCA to Stand Down

The Chief Executive of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), Hugh Williams, 59, has announced his intention to stand down at the end of 2012 after 10 years in post. IMCA is the international trade association for offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies with about 850 members in over 60 countries all around the world. It focuses on offshore construction and marine operations mainly in support of offshore oil & gas, but also marine renewable energy, dredging and telecommunications cable laying.

MTNW Completes Anchor Winch Monitoring Project in Nigeria for Adamac

March 16, 2011. Seattle, WA. Measurement Technology NorthWest (MTNW) announces major award from Adamac, a leading Nigerian Oil & Gas Services Company based in Port Harcourt. The project called for 9 running line tensiometers, displays, and software to monitor the anchor winch lines for a pipe-laying barge. “The Gulf of Guinea off of Nigeria is one of the fastest growing new oil patches. Oil Spill Experts Address High Density Oil Spills

Leading world experts in oil spill response have agreed a series of recommendations to deal with future spills of high density oil during the International Maritime Organization’s Third R&D Forum on High Density Oil Spill Response, held from 11-13 March in Brest, France, following the generous offer of the French Government to host the Forum. Large quantities of high density oil are carried by ships either as cargo or as fuel (bunkers). Clean Up After Collision Progresses

The clean-up operation for the oil spill that resulted from a collision between the Thailand-registered freighter, MV Hermion and the Singapore-registered bunker tanker, Neptank VII, at 0145hrs about 4.5km south-east of Sentosa, has made good progress. Oil patches sighted by an aerial recce conducted from 0900hrs to 1100hrs have been cleaned up by the anti-pollution craft deployed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The dispersant-treated oil patches (i.e. light oil sheens) were sighted in the waters about 5 km south and south-east of Bedok Jetty. There has been no report of the oil affecting any of the islands or mainland Singapore. The MPA has deployed oil booms off the waters of Marina Bay and Sentosa as a precautionary measure.

Oil Spill Leaves Ships Stranded

The AP has reported that ships have been stranded, seafood sources threatened and the nation's oil reserve tapped as the result of 47,000 gallons of oil spilling into a southwestern Louisiana shipping channel, forcing its closure. The June 19 spill at a Citgo Petroleum Corp. refinery in Lake Charles forced the closure of the Calcasieu Ship Channel, a key lane for transporting petroleum in and out of the region's four refineries. About 11 miles of the channel remained closed Thursday. The entire 40 miles to the Gulf of Mexico had been closed. About 31,000 barrels had been cleaned up by Thursday, the Coast Guard said. A Citgo spokesman said the clean up was going well partly because a lack a wind kept oil patches in place and the dry, sunny weather was evaporating much of the oil.

Containership Grounds Near Singapore

The Singapore-registered container ship, MV APL Emerald (40,077 gross tons), reported that it ran aground at about 1.3km south of Horsburgh Lighthouse in the Singapore waters on June 12. The vessel left the Singapore port on June 11 and was bound for Chiwan, China. The shipmaster reported that one of the vessel's water ballast tanks and four fuel oil tanks were damaged as a result of the incident. The shipmaster estimated that about 150 metric tonnes of fuel oil had leaked into the sea. There was no report of any injury to the crew. The vessel is in stable condition. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has deployed four anti-pollution craft to clean up the oil spill.
