Armed with New Technology, Oil Drillers Revisit Gulf of Mexico

Advances in drilling technology are reviving the prospects of oil companies in shallow parts of the Gulf of Mexico, helping to squeeze more from older fields while the U.S. shale bonanza lures others onshore. Apache Corp and a handful of smaller independent companies are using seismic surveying and horizontal drilling - techniques perfected during the onshore fracking boom - to tap mature fields and find hidden reserves on the shelf. The methods appeal to investors hungry for the quick profits that cannot be delivered by deepwater drilling, where a dozen years of planning and billions of dollars in investment can be required to get oil pumping.

Yuganskneftegaz Stimulates Construction of Wells at Priobskoye

Rosneft subsidiary Yuganskneftegaz officially opened two new oil and gas production units at the Priobskoye field, oil and gas production unit–22 and oil and gas production unit–23. The creation of new production units in Yuganskneftegaz is caused by intensive commissioning of producing wells after drilling, construction of multiple well platforms and infrastructure facilities. It is planned to complete 535 new wells at the Priobskoye Field during 2014, which will increase oil output by over 100 thousand tons. Production gain is provided not only by increased number of producing wells. The enterprise also applies new technologies of mechanized extraction.

Aker Solutions to Deliver Offshore Wireline Tractor Services

Aker Solutions wins a Statoil four-year frame agreement to supply wireline tractor services on the Norwegian continental shelf. The wireline tractor can push well intervention equipment several kilometres along highly deviated and horizontal wells. It has eliminated the need for more heavily equipped and costly well conveyance methods, thereby significantly reducing both operational costs and HSE risk. Under the agreement Aker Solutions will deliver wireline tractor services to the platforms that Statoil operates out of Stavanger, Norway, including Statfjord, Volve, Sleipner, Snorre, Gudrun, Dagny and Ermintrude. The company will also provide wireline tractor services to the following fields in the Norwegian Sea: Morvin…
