The Coast Guard Cutter William Trump was commissioned during a ceremony at Coast Guard Sector Key West Saturday Jan. 24, 2015. The Trump is the 11th fast response cutter in the Coast Guard fleet. Rear Adm. Jake Korn served as the presiding official at the Cutter William Trump commissioning ceremony. Each fast response cutter is named for an enlisted Coast Guard hero who distinguished him or herself in the line of duty. U.S. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated 121 Cuban migrants to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, Monday interdicted in seven separate events in the past week. All seven interdictions included unseaworthy, homemade vessels that posed significant risk to the migrants attempting to make the perilous journey. The USCG has increased patrols in the Florida Straits in response to the surge of illegal migration attempts into the United States over the last three weeks while continuing to aggressively patrol the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

On June 28, the Commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Thad Allen, presented the Commandant's Quality Award - Bronze Level to Sector Corpus Christi. Capt. Jake Korn, Sector Commander for Sector Corpus Christi received the award on behalf of the unit at the Coast Guard's Innovation Expo in Tampa, Florida. The award recognizes high-performing Coast Guard commands that excel in leadership and performance management. The Corpus Christi command was one of only seven units nationwide to receive the award, and the first Sector to receive unit wide recognition. The Bronze level was the highest level awarded this year. Sector Corpus Christi's Area of Responsibility includes the ports, waterways and coastal region of South Texas extending from the Colorado River to the Rio Grande .

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi will assess safety and security issues associated with liquefied natural gas tankers traveling in the Matagorda Ship Channel in order to make a recommendation to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regarding Calhoun LNG, L.P.'s proposal to build a liquefied natural gas terminal in Calhoun County. The Coast Guard received official notification of Calhoun LNG, L.P.'s plans on March 14, 2005. "We plan to work very closely with local officials, members of our Harbor Safety Committee and the Area Maritime Security Committee in evaluating this proposal," said Captain Jake Korn, Coast Guard Captain of the Port at Sector Corpus Christi. FERC is responsible for authorizing the siting, construction, and operation of onshore LNG facilities.
