Bremerton, Wash. based boatbuilder SAFE Boats International announced that retired Vice Admiral William “Dean” Lee and Tom Norton have joined its board of directors.Vice Admiral Lee served in the U. S. Coast Guard for more than 36-years, most recently serving as the Commander, Atlantic Area (LANTAREA), responsible for all Coast Guard operations from the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf. During his service to the Nation, he served in numerous command and staff positions specializing in search and rescue and small boat operations.

President Joe Biden nominated Adm. Linda L. Fagan to serve as the 27th Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon confirmation, Adm. Fagan will be the first woman to serve as Commandant of the Coast Guard.Adm. Fagan currently serves as the 32nd Vice Commandant, having assumed the duties on June 18, 2021. To be held on Friday, March 4 in New Orleans, Coast Guard Sector Mobile will be honored at the event for their skill and leadership in organizing a mass search and rescue operation on April 25, 2015. An unforeseen storm on that day struck Mobile Bay and nearby Mississippi Sound with tropical force winds and waves, grounding a 600-foot tanker and impacting the 117 sailboats participating in a race. In total, more than 470 sailors and crew were in the Bay that afternoon as the storm whipped up with little warning, creating a chaotic scene as competitors scrambled to react.

EIA's AEO2015 projects that U.S. The Annual Energy Outlook 2015 (AEO2015) released today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) presents updated projections for U.S. energy markets through 2040 based on six cases (Reference, Low and High Economic Growth, Low and High Oil Price, and High Oil and Gas Resource) that reflect updated scenarios for future crude oil prices. "EIA's AEO2015 shows that the advanced technologies are reshaping the U.S. energy economy," said EIA Administrator Adam Sieminski.

Munro Coast Guard Headquarters Building. “Adm. Papp’s leadership and resolve have left an indelible mark on the service,” said Zukunft. “To the men and women of the Coast Guard, I'm humbled to stand before you as your 25th Commandant," said Zukunft. An explosion on Wednesday rocked a natural gas-processing plant in Wyoming that can churn out about 2 percent of the daily U.S. gas supply, though no injuries were reported. The blast at the Williams Companies Inc plant in Opal, Wyoming, touched off a fire that was still burning several hours later, company spokeswoman Michele Swanersaid. She said all 42 employees of the evacuated plant had been accounted for and were not injured. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department said the fire had been contained to one area of the plant. Shelters were set up for people in the town of 100 people and nearby Highway 30 was closed. The explosion, the second safety incident suffered by Williams Companies in the last few weeks, could lead to pockets of higher prices in parts of the United States.

The Australian oil and gas industry is telling everybody that a second wave of investment in liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants is at risk unless labour and regulatory costs are cut. The companies are unlikely to get all that they want. In fact they may not get very much at all out of the labour unions and the federal and state governments. But it may not matter that much, because even with its high costs Australia remains one of the best places to invest the billions of dollars needed to develop a large-scale LNG project. Australia currently has seven LNG plants under construction. When all are completed by 2018 the nation will be the largest exporter of the super-cooled fuel, overtaking Qatar.

American Cruise Lines (www.americancruiselines.com) has announced  that Captain Andrew White has joined the company as Director of Marine Operations. Captain White joins American Cruise Lines after his recent retirement from twenty-seven years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard. Thirteen of those years were spent on Coast Guard cutters on both the East and West Coasts of the United States, as well as the Caribbean Sea. His last Coast Guard shipboard command was the 378-foot cutter GALLATIN out of Charleston, SC.

Ridge Global, an international provider of security and risk management services, has named Vice Admiral Brian Peterman (United States Coast Guard, Retired) and Matt Branigan as the newest members of Flag Bridge, a recently launched service focused on maritime risk and sovereignty management. Eastern Canada Response Corporation (ECRC) selected BRP's Evinrude E-TEC engines to repower its 79-boat fleet. The CA$1.5 million contract was awarded to BRP based on Evinrude outboards' low cost of ownership and high environmental standards. ECRC operates six centres in eastern Canada and provides marine oil spill response services in all navigable waters east of the Rocky Mountains. Boats powered by the 30 hp to 225 hp Evinrude E-TEC engines will be at the forefront of chemical and oil spill cleanup throughout Canada and the United States.

A change of command and retirement ceremony is scheduled for the Coast Guard Atlantic Area commander Friday at 10 a.m. at Nauticus, the National Maritime Center, in Norfolk, Va. Coast Guard Commandant Thomas H. Collins will preside over the ceremony where Vice Adm. Vivien S. Crea, will assume responsibilities from Vice Adm. James D. Hull as the Coast Guard Atlantic Area commander. Hull, the Atlantic Area commander for the past two years, will retire following the change of command after 39 years of service. Hull was commissioned an Ensign at the Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn., in 1969. Between 1969 and 1971, Hull was aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Rush in Vietnam. During combat, crewmembers from the Rush sank two enemy trawlers and prevented a U.S. Army unit from being over-run.

Vice Adm. Ray Riutta, commander of the Coast Guard’s Pacific Area, instructed Coast Guard Captains of the Port west of the Rocky Mountains to apply the guidelines as an interim step while new regulations are being developed by Coast Guard Headquarters, a regulatory process that may take a year or more. While Coast Guard Captains of the Port currently have authority to take actions based on security threats, the new guidelines provide consistency among the various ports and address the heightened threat conditions experienced after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Consistency in the guidelines is vital in creating a level playing field for the numerous commercial facilities and ports that compete economically for trade.
