USCG Approves Meridian Global Consulting as TPO

The Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise (TVNCOE) posted on its website February 2, 2018, that the U.S. Coast Guard has approved Meridian Global Consulting, LLC as a third-party organization (TPO) to carry out certain functions in accordance with Subchapter M. The current list of all Subchapter M approved TPOs is maintained on TVNCOE’s TPO webpage. In accordance with 46 CFR 139.110, classification societies that are recognized and/or authorized meet the requirements of a TPO.

Bulk Carrier Runs Aground in Delaware River (Link to Video)

Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay is investigating a ship aground in the Delaware River near the Burlington Bristol Bridge, which connects Burlington, NJ and Bristol Township, PA.   The Liberian-flagged 600-foot bulk carrier, Agia Irini, was headed southbound when it reportedly lost propulsion and ran aground at approximately 2 p.m.   Philadelphia's ABC affiliate has video of the grounding.   No injuries or pollution were reported following the incident.   The crew of the 65-foot Coast Guard Cutter Cleat responded to the scene to investigate.   The ship was refloated and is en route to safe anchorage for further Coast Guard investigation.

Coast Guard Transfers Stowaways To INS

The Coast Guard completed the transfer of 17 stowaways to Immigration and Naturalization Service officials about 5:30 a.m. yesterday at the Alabama State Docks, after crewmembers aboard the motor vessel Scan Germania, a 416-ft. British-flagged cargo vessel, discovered them Saturday, on its journey from Dominican Republic to Mobile, Ala. Coast Guard Cutter Bonito relieved CGC Decisive of escort duties at the Mobile sea buoy and arrived at the State Docks at approximately 1:30 a.m on Tuesday. Eighteen boarding team members from the Bonito, Station Dauphin Island, CGC Cobia, CGC Stingray and Group Mobile maintained security aboard the Scan Germania while the Bonito escorted the vessel into port.
