Color Line and Ulstein Verft marked the construction start-up on the world's largest plug-in hybrid ship, the 'Color Hybrid'. It has now been decided that Ulstein Verft will be constructing Color Lineâs new hybrid vessel. The environmentally sound ship will be servicing Sandefjord â Strømstad from summer 2019. Norwegian ferry operator Color Line and shipbuilder Ulstein Verft have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the construction of what will reportedly become the largest hybrid vessel in the world, a 160-meter-long passenger ferry. The Fosen-designed ferry will be a plug-in hybrid with batteries able to be recharged via a power cable with electricity from their own shore facilities or recharged on board by the ship's generators. Color Line, Aker Yards Sign for Cruise Ship
Color Line AS and Aker Yards signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the order of a second ship, a sister vessel to M/S Color Fantasy, the world's largest cruise ship with car decks delivered from Aker Finnyards the 3rd of December 2004. The contract value is at the same level as for M/S Color Fantasy, approximately EUR 300 million. The agreement is subject to certain conditions, including Color Line and Aker Yards board approval. The contract is anticipated to be made effective within the second quarter of 2005. "We are extremely pleased to continue our strong relationship with Color Line by building this sister vessel to M/S Color Fantasy.â says Yrjö Julin, President of Aker Finnyards.
Keel Laying of Color Lineâs Second Cruise Ship
The keel of the cruise ship to be named Color Magic was laid at Aker Yards. Both Chairman of the Board Olav Nils Sunde and CEO Trond Kleivdal from Color Line were present, hosted by Yrjö Julin, President of Aker Yards, Cruise & Ferries. The contract of building this vessel, worth $418m, was signed on May 27, 2005, and secures work at the yard for about 1,200 man-years, and about the same number for outside sub-contractors and still more for suppliers of material and components. MS Color Magic will be built partly at the yard in Turku, and partly at the yard in Rauma. Delivery will take place in Rauma in autumn 2007. The vessel to start traffic the route Oslo - Kiel as from the fourth quarter 2007 will be Color Line s second cruise ship with car deck.
Color Line To Take Delivery of New Cruise Ferry
The Norwegian ship owner Color Line AS and Kvaerner Masa-Yards have agreed to extend the validity of their letter of intent signed in July 2002. The signing of the final contract has been delayed because the financing of the vessel is pending the outcome of the Norwegian budget proposal of October 3, 2002. already in effect in other Nordic and European countries. According to the letter of intent Color Line shall purchase and Kvaerner Masa-Yards shall design, build and deliver one cruise passenger ferry of about 74 500 gross tonnes. similar to the system in Sweden or Denmark. The vessel could start operation under Norwegian flag for the Christmas season 2004. The parties have agreed on the general arrangements and specifications of the vessel.
