The US-based chemical tanker company  Ardmore Shipping Corporation announced that Reginald L. Jones is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company effective December 31, 2018. Curtis McWilliams has been appointed as Chairman of the Board effective January 1, 2019, said a stock exchange announcement from the company.Jones will remain as a director until the Company's annual general meeting in 2019, when he does not intend to stand for re-election. He is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Greenbriar Equity Group LLC, Ardmore's initial investor in 2010 which exited its position in Ardmore as part of the monetization of its Fund II in November 2017. McWilliams became a director of Ardmore in January 2016.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) is remaining committed to supporting the state’s goals of generating 3.5GW of offshore wind by 2030 and reaching 100% of renewable energy by 2050.The Offshore Wind Supply Chain Networking Event at Princeton University’s Andlinger Center for Energy and Environment provided information about the state’s plans for offshore wind, supply chain opportunities, available incentives, and workforce development programs.The event was co-sponsored by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Department of Environmental Protection, and Department of Labor and Workforce Development, as well as several offshore wind related businesses.

Elizabeth Jackson has joined KVH Industries, Inc. as chief marketing officer and senior vice president for strategy.   Jackson has worked at a variety of companies including Proctor & Gamble, Campbell Soup Company, Summer Infant, and HookLogic, a Bain Capital Ventures portfolio company in ad tech performance marketing. Most recently, Jackson was CMO at DOTS Technology Corp, an NEA portfolio company in health tech.   Jackson has a B.A. from Princeton University and an MBA from INSEAD in France.

Austal christened USNS Trenton (JHSV 5) January 10 at its shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. USNS Trenton is the fifth of 10 Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSV) that Austal has under contract with the U.S. Navy as part of an overall 10-ship block-buy contract worth over $1.6 billion. The 338-foot catamaran vessel was named Trenton by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, after the capital of the state of New Jersey and the site of George Washington's first military victory during the American Revolutionary War.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) named Todd Leavitt, vice president of the company's Maritime Systems business unit, effective immediately. Leavitt will have executive responsibility for all Maritime Systems programs and products. He will lead all domestic and international programs within the Maritime Systems business area to include naval radars, electronic warfare capabilities, navigation systems, machinery controls, and power and control systems. Leavitt joined the company in 2007 as manager, Surface Navy Futures. In 2010, he was appointed director, Maritime Sensors and Shipboard Integration, and served in that role until his present appointment. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Leavitt served 21 years as a surface warfare officer in the U.S.

Odyssey Marine Exploration, a company in the field of deep-ocean shipwreck and offshore mineral exploration, appointed Mark B. Justh to its board of directors. The appointment adds a seat to the board, bringing the total number of directors to seven, including five independent directors. Justh previously served for 12 years at JP Morgan. There he was a managing director and head of Pan Asian Equities Distribution in Hong Kong. During his tenure at JP Morgan he was also responsible for Cash Equities Distribution in the Americas. Prior to JP Morgan, he was a partner at a startup fund in the media space, HPJ Media Ventures/DeNovo Capital. While the U.S. commercial shipbuilding industry outperformed the U.S. economy between 1992 and 2001, this period witnessed the construction of barely a dozen large ocean going vessels for our U.S. domestic trades with an aggregate cost of not much more than $500 million. In contrast, U. S. national transportation needs for the current decade will require the construction of four to five dozen such commercial vessels which, taken together with the building of smaller vessels to meet our other domestic needs, will involve shipbuilding contracts in excess of $6 to $7 billion. The majority of this work is federally mandated by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, or involves the replacement of vessels in our U.S. non-contiguous trades that have reached the end of their useful lives.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and BP America Inc. announce the signing of a three-year, $3 million-dollar partnership, marking the beginning of a long-term research collaboration. The initial focus of the program is to develop and evaluate new technologies to image and characterize the seafloor and subseafloor. Using a wide variety of surveying techniques such as electromagnetics, fiber optics, acoustics, autonomous underwater vehicles and ocean bottom seismographs, Scripps and BP scientists will further improve our understanding of the seabed and the processes that shape it. Paul Stuart Crandall passed away on July 20, 2002 following a massive stroke. A Civil Engineering graduate, MIT class of 1942, and a registered professional engineer, Paul Crandall served 3-1/2 years with the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Water Supply Battalion operating in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany during WWII. Crandall joined Crandall Dry Dock Engineers in 1945 as the fifth generation of engineers to carry on the dry dock business begun in 1854 by his great-great grandfather, William H. Crandall. He served as designer, field engineer, and subsequently principal engineer until 1953 when he became President of Crandall Dry Dock Engineers.

As the U.S. Department of Transportation works to develop transportation policies to meet 21st Century needs, perhaps the most vexing problems faced are those associated with traffic congestion on the Interstate highways which parallel our Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coastlines. Interstate 95, I-5 and I-10 carry automobile and truck traffic far beyond their design capacities. In the major metropolitan areas, which these highways intersect, the combination of interstate and local traffic increasingly slows vehicle movements to a crawl. More traffic is on the way.
