Evergreen Social Responsibility Award

The Evergreen Group was honored with “The Corporate Social Responsibility Award” on September 8 at the presentation of the 2009 Lloyd’s List Global Awards. The award recognizes the leadership demonstrated by the Evergreen Group for its efforts aimed at safeguarding the environment. Evergreen provides disaster relief and other welfare programs through the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation and supports cultural promotion and educational initiatives through Evergreen Symphony Orchestra and Evergreen Maritime Museum.

Former U.K. MCA Chief is Hatsu’s New Head

Maurice Storey, the former Chief Executive of the U.K. Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), is to become Chairman of Evergreen Group’s U.K. affiliate Hatsu Marine Ltd., effective December 1, 2003, while Jason Lin continues as president of Hatsu Marine Ltd. Established in January 2002, Hatsu has its headquarters in London and currently owns a fleet of seven new U.K.-flag container vessels including five 6,332-teu ships currently operating in the transpacific trades. Evergreen Group Supports U.K. National Maritime Museum

Last week witnessed the official opening of the UK National Maritime Museum (NMM)’s ‘Art for the Nation’ exhibition, sponsored by Taiwan’s Evergreen Group via its charitable arm, the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation. The exhibition brings together for the first time under one roof the Museum’s extensive fine art collection, featuring paintings by great names such as Turner, Hogarth, Gainsborough and Reynolds, as well as works by the Dutch Van de Velde family. HRH the Prince of Wales was present at the opening ceremony along with an array of VIP guests including Maurice Storey, Honorary Chairman of the Evergreen Group’s UK-based container line Hatsu Marine Limited.

Conference Focuses on Fire

Who is in charge when a land-based fire brigade responds to a blaze at sea? What are the fire risks for ships in port and under construction? How can design and technology enhance marine fire protection? Prevention, detection and control on ships and offshore structures will be examined at a new forum in London in March by key personnel including ship owners and managers, ship and harbour masters, safety officers, marine and fire protection engineers, insurance executives and senior fire-fighters. The first International Fire on Ships Conference takes place at the Inmarsat Conference Centre on March 11-12, organised by Lloyd’s List Events and supported by UK body the Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CACFOA).

MCA and Norcontrol Collaborate
