Tokyo—Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) announced that the company has held the MOL Safety Conference 2012 in Manila, Mumbai, Dubrovnik, and Tokyo.
About 210 seafarers who were on leave took part in the conference on February 13 in Manila; about 100 participated on February 23 in Mumbai; about 130 attended the event on February 28 in Dubrovnik; and about 70 were on hand for the March 7 session in Tokyo.
The event opened with a strong message from MOL Chairman Akimitsu Ashida and President Koichi Muto, who said, "Safe operation is the key to winning credibility and trust from our customers in the severe business environment surrounding our company. Our goal is to become the world leader in safe operation, as stated in the midterm management plan ‘GEAR UP! MOL.’ To achieve this goal, I hope all seafarers on the front lines of safe operation will be motivated to further enhance the safety of the MOL Group fleet.”
In addition to the conference, on March 6, about 60 Japanese seafarers and office staff, including Executive Officer Masaaki Nemoto, took part in a “Hazard experience” training session, which replicated various potential risks in onboard operations, and reaffirmed their commitment to accident-free operation.
Since 2007, the MOL Safety Conference has been held annually in the company’s main seafarer source nations with the main objectives of explaining safety initiatives and exchanging opinions with seafarers who serve aboard MOL Group vessels all over the world about ways to enhance safe operation. MOL continues its efforts to become "the world leader in safe operation" through those activities.
