Japanese shipbuilder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) informs it has received orders for the construction of two next-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers that will primarily carry shale gas produced in North America. The shipbuilding contracts, received through MI LNG Company, Limited, a joint venture between MHI and Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., will see the delivery of one LNG carrier each for two separate joint ventures which Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. has established with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), respectively. The vessels will be built at MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery and are both scheduled for completion and delivery in 2018 when they will commence transporting shale gas produced in North America…

The Energy Department has conditionally authorized Freeport LNG Expansion, L.P. and FLNG Liquefaction, LLC (Freeport) to export additional volumes of domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States from the Freeport LNG Terminal in Quintana Island, Texas. Freeport previously received approval to export 1.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day (Bcf/d) of LNG from this facility to non-FTA countries on May 17, 2013.

The Energy Department announced it has conditionally authorized Lake Charles Exports, LLC (Lake Charles) to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States from the Lake Charles Terminal in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles previously received approval to export LNG from this facility to FTA countries on July 22, 2011. Subject to environmental review and final regulatory approval, the facility is conditionally authorized to export at a rate of up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day (Bcf/d) for a period of 20 years. Freeport LNG Development, L.P. and Technip USA Corporation, a subsidiary of Technip have signed a contract for the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) leading to the finalization of the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for its LNG receiving terminal to be located on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas. The FEED is expected to be completed by the end of December with the EPC phase of the project beginning in the first quarter of 2004. Michael Smith, CEO of Freeport LNG Development, L.P., said, "Technip has considerable experience in LNG facility design and this contract continues the relationship established with Technip during their assistance in the preparation of the FERC filing documents for our terminal.

ConocoPhillips announced the signing of an agreement with Freeport LNG Development, L.P. to participate in its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal in Quintana, Texas. ConocoPhillips will acquire 1 billion cubic feet (BCF) per day of regasification capacity in the terminal for its use and obtain a 50 percent interest in the general partner managing the venture. ConocoPhillips will be primarily responsible for management of construction and operation of the facility, and provide a significant portion of construction funding. The management of Freeport LNG Development will remain in place and be responsible for all commercial activities and customer interface for the remaining capacity in the facility.

Conrad Industries, Inc. has signed two contracts for construction of two 98-ft., Z-Tech 7500 Class Terminal/Escort Tugs with Bay-Houston Towing Co.and Suderman & Young Towing Company, L.P. These ABS -classed tugs will provide harbor tug services for LNG vessels calling at the Freeport LNG terminal which is currently under construction in the Port of Freeport, Texas. G&H Towing Company of Galveston, Texas will operate the two tugboats. Johnny Conrad, President and CEO said "We are excited to add Bay- Houston and Suderman & Young as customers. These two new contracts are scheduled to be constructed at our Orange Shipbuilding facility which has constructed sixty-five tugs and towboats since 1974. With these additions, our current backlog is at a record high of approximately $93m.”

Bay-Houston Towing Co., Suderman & Young Towing Co. LP, and Moran Towing Corporation are pleased to announce they have jointly contracted with the ConocoPhillips Company to provide harbor tug services for LNG vessels calling at the Freeport LNG terminal, currently under construction in the Port of Freeport, Texas. Bay-Houston and Suderman & Young will each provide one 6300 hp Z-Tech tractor tug while Moran Towing Corp. will provide a 5100 hp ASD tractor tug. ABS Escort Service; and ABS Fire Fighting Vessel Class 1. Galveston, Texas will operate the three tugboats. The tugs will deliver a combined bollard pull in excess of 235 short tons. The Z-Techs are powered by two Caterpillar 3516C HD engines providing 6300 hp (4700 kw). Schottel Model SRP 1520 Z-drives.
