Conrad Industries Announces Appointment of Larry J. Bollinger Delivers New Bayou Teche Flood Gate

Bollinger Shipyards said it has delivered the Bayou Teche flood gate to St. Mary Parish Levee District. The steel flood gate—measuring 84 feet long, 40 ft wide and 19 feet high—is designed for a 25-year rain event and to provide flood risk reduction for a 10-foot storm surge. The gate is the heart of the Bayou Teche Flood Control Structure project announced in January of this year.The Bayou Teche Flood Control Structure is designed to reduce the risk of heavy rain event and hurricane storm surge flooding when water comes through the Charenton Canal into Bayou Teche.

Metal Shark Boats Gets Louisiana Governor's Award

Louisiana Economic Development (LED) inform that Gov. Bobby Jindal has presented Metal Shark Boats, (headquartered in Jeanerette in Iberia Parish) with the Governor’s Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence. The Governor’s Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence is periodically awarded by the governor to businesses that grow and provide more opportunity, more jobs and more commerce for the state of Louisiana. Metal Shark Boats has grown from an employment of 75 in 2012 to 200 employees today. LED explains that Metal Shark Boats continues to expand production of boats up to 40 feet in length at its original shipyard, filling customer orders for the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy, law enforcement and conservation agencies, and commercial companies.

Metal Shark 75 Defiant Underway

Louisiana-based boat manufacturer Metal Shark Aluminum Boats is significantly expanding its operations and has acquired a large waterfront parcel to accommodate the production of larger vessels. The builder has signaled its entry into the shipbuilding sector with the purchase of a 25-acre waterfront tract located in South Louisiana’s St. Mary Parish. Plans for the new facility call for over 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space, with approximately 100 new employees expected to be hired within the next few years.

DofD Latest Dredging & Ship Repair Contracts

Weeks Marine has been awarded a substantial dredging contract, and NASSCO a contract for the phased maintenance of  'USS Peleliu'. Weeks Marine Inc., Covington, La., was awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract with a maximum value of $12,728,225 for dredging services in support of various projects. Work will be performed in West Baton Rouge Parish, La.; West Feliciana Parish, La.; St. Martin Parish, La.; and St. Mary Parish, La. The type of appropriation will be determined with each order. The bid was solicited through the Internet, with three bids received. The Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans, La., is the contracting activity (W912P8-13-D-0010). National Steel and Shipbuilding Co.

New USACE Contract

Weeks Marine, Inc., Covington, La., was awarded on Aug. 14, 2009 a $14,877,000 firm-fixed-price contract for Atchafalaya River and Bayous Chene, Boeuf, and black, Atchafalaya Bar Channel, Maintenance Dredging C/L Sta. 475+00, Non-Continuous (09-2), St. Mary Parish, La.  Work is to be performed in St. Mary Parish, La., with an estimated completion date of Dec. 12, 2009.  Bids were solicited using the World Wide Web with two bids received.  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, New Orleans, La. is the contracting activity (W912P8-09-C-0103).

New Vessel Traffic Control Tower Completed

A new $1.1m Vessel Traffic Control Tower was recently completed at Mile Marker 99 of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway adjacent to Jesse Fontenot Memorial Boat Landing in Berwick, La. The purpose of the tower is to provide additional camera vantage points looking westward along the Intracoastal Waterway, southward along the Lower Atchafalaya River and northward toward Berwick Bay. In addition, the tower will be equipped with a TERMA radar and Automatic Identification System (AIS) transceiver to update and improve the overall Ports and Waterways Safety System in order to provide increased situational awareness for the U. Conrad Industries, Inc. is expanding its products and services to include aluminum marine fabrication, repair and conversion for both commercial and government customers. The expansion is part of a $5.5 million investment in one of the company's existing facilities in Amelia, La. Kenneth G. "Jerry" Myers, Jr., Conrad's President and CEO said, "We are extremely excited to announce our entrance into the aluminum marine fabrication, repair and conversion business via our subsidiary, Conrad Aluminum, L.L.C. This expansion is being made possible as a result of the direct support we have received from the State of Louisiana and St. Mary Parish.

Conrad Welcomes New Facility

Conrad Industries held a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday at its new repair and conversion facility in Amelia, La. Several local politicians were on hand including, Bill Cefalu, St. Mary Parish President; Representative Jack Smith, Louisiana District 50; Representative Carla Dartez, Louisiana District 51; State Senator D. A. “Butch” Gautreaux, Louisiana District 21; Dr. Tim Tregle, Mayor of Morgan City; and Emile Babin, President & CEO of the St. Inc.
