DBR are currently putting together a 40 foot DNV 2.7-1 container generator set for a vessel owned by Jan De Nul Group.

After delivery in Q3 2015, the customized generator set will be put into action on offshore trenching operations.

DBR will divide the standard container into three separate compartments – to hold the generator, switchboard and radiator components respectively. The generator room will also house an A-60 enclosure for the system’s built-in FiFi unit.
To provide the power, DBR selected a 16 cylinder Mitsubishi Marine engine, which is particularly suited for this type of application due to its ability to handle substantial step loads. A Newage Stamford generator, with IP44 protection for the marine environment, will produce the electrical power. Such a configuration of components will meet the latest IMO Tier II exhaust regulations.

Due to the layout of the vessel, the new generator set will be placed underneath an existing container. Consequently, DBR’s stackable design will have exhaust and ventilation outlets positioned on the container’s side.

DBR’s strong relationship with Jan De Nul Group goes back decades – they have supplied numerous smaller generator sets over the years. This current contract represents one of the biggest generator sets that DBR will have constructed for Jan De Nul Group.

“With its 1.5MW capacity, this genset provides considerable power,” says DBR Managing Director Herwin Roodenburg. He goes on to highlight the suitability of the design for use in harsh offshore conditions: “This container genset is Bureau Veritas-classed for offshore lifting purposes in ambient temperatures up to 45°C.”
