MAN Issues Cooling Systems Service Letter
MAN Diesel and Turbo released Service Letter SL2014-584/LRA to all owners, operators and personnel involved in maintaining vessels which have MAN B&W Type MC/MC-C and ME/ME-C/ME-B two-stroke marine diesel engines regarding cooling water systems and cooling jacket securing methods on their engines.
The service letter gives advice on cooling water system monitoring and O-ring sealing issues and details how to correctly fit the cooling jacket securing bolts to the cylinder cover in order to avoid an increased risk of cooling jacket fracture and potential failure.
The letter also provides a number of possible actions to prevent corroded or cracked engine parts (cylinder cover, cylinder liner and cooling jackets) and cooling water leakage.
MAN said all personnel involved in operating and maintaining these engines are advised to read the full service letter and follow its recommendations.
