Unique Hydrographic Systems has been contracted by Cairn India for an Oil Spill Recovery project. The first of its kind project for Unique Hydrographic Systems will run over a period of three years until April 2016. The crux of this Tier 1 project includes the supply of oil spill recovery equipment from Lamor along with vehicles and a trained team of responders and supervisors for approximately 700 kilometers of hot crude oil pipeline from Barmer to Jamnagar. Elastec/American Marine, headquartered in Carmi, IL, is pleased to announce the acquisition of the BoomVane technology, expanding its range in the manufacture of innovative pollution control equipment. Developed and patented by ORC of Sweden, the BoomVane is an aquatic paravane system that enables oil recovery and debris containment booms to be towed by a single vessel, as well as to deploy booms in rivers and tidal waters without boats or anchors. Elastec/American Marine is the largest manufacturer of oil spill recovery equipment in North America with global distribution in 145 countries.

Metso has been awarded major automation system contracts for 3 advanced vessels to be built in Finland. One contract is for 2 Multifunctional Icebreaking Supply Vessels (MIBSV) by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Oy for Russian Sovcomflot. The second is a Multipurpose Deck Cargo Carrier by STX Finland Oy for Finnish Gaiamare Ltd. belonging to Turku based Meriaura Group. The MIBSV’s are designated for the Sakhalin-1 Arkutun-Dagi gas field and will be used as supply vessels for the Exxon Neftegas Ltd gas platform. They are designed for the harsh environmental conditions in the Sakhalin area with drifting ice and temperatures down to minus 35°C.

Alnmaritec Limited, a UK boat builders, has two new boats delivered in 2010 to in the oil spill response/pollution control vessel market. The most recent delivery was a boom deployment and spill response boat which was delivered to the Barbados National Terminal Company Ltd. for operation on their oil export facility at Oistins Bay on the South Coast of the island. The new vessel Responder 1 is based upon the successful Wave Worker class from Alnmaritec and she is a 39.3 ft long by 17.4 ft wide displacement catamaran design providing a very stable and seaworthy platform.

Ten years ago, a RoRo passenger service called Sealink, commenced in the Bahamas — operating from Nassau to port of Governor's Harbor on the adjacent island of Eleuthera. The vessel that performed this service was an aging 14-knot Greek ferry, which established a solid market within the RoRo sector. Despite its healthy growth spurt, the venture ceased in 1993 resulting from rising repair costs and maintenance, specifically in the machinery department, as some engine parts had since been discontinued. Then a group of local businessmen purchased an Australian RoPax catamaran to re-enter the Eleuthera trade. This vessel, which incidentally is also named Sealink, is from the Sea Transport Solutions (STS) design studio in Queensland, Australia.

Cory Towage has been granted a contract to provide a variety of marine services in the Baltic at the newly built import/export oil terminal at Butinge in Lithuania. The agreement, which began in March, was awarded by Lithuania's state-owned oil company, Mazeikiu Nafta, and is centered around a single point mooring (SPM) facility for the export of Russian crude oil. Cory's function in this venture entails provision of tanker berthing and general marine support, including the provision of two vessels - a berthing tug and a workboat, and berthing/loading masters, operation of oil spill recovery equipment and maintenance services above and below the water for the SPM. T Located about five miles offshore, the SPM can accommodate tankers of up to 80,000-dwt.
