Antwerp Focuses on India, China and Eastern Europe

Malini Dutt, Robert Feng and Martin Hubenack have recently been appointed to represent the port of Antwerp in India, China and Eastern Europe respectively. This brings the number of port representatives to 12, reinforcing Antwerp's presence in its core hinterland and important overseas growth regions. The task of these representatives is to keep Antwerp "top of mind" with local companies, ports, chambers of commerce and other players. With an annual freight volume of 6.4 million tonnes carried between it and the Indian ports, Antwerp is the European market leader for this region. India is one of the fastest-expanding economies in the world, with an annual growth rate of 7%. Malini Dutt joins Raj Khalid, so that Antwerp now has two representatives in the port city of Mumbai.

Glickman to Take over as ZIM CEO

Eli Glickman has been nominated by ZIM Integrated Shipping Services’ board of directors as the container carrier’s new president and CEO. Glickman will assume the role July 1, replacing current CEO Rafi Danieli, who last year advised that he would be stepping down. Danieli led ZIM as CEO for the past eight years, and before this held various positions at ZIM, including CFO and deputy CEO. “It has been a privilege to lead ZIM during the most difficult times the industry has ever faced,” Danieli said.

Ports Generate Jobs in Georgia

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis Foltz gathered Tuesday, October 25, for a panel discussion at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s third annual State of the Port event in Atlanta. The three leaders spoke about the ports’ impact on jobs and commerce, their importance to the Southeast’s economic future and the need to deepen the Port of Savannah. CP Ships Restructures Executive Ranks

Following the appointment of Frank Halliwell as CEO by the Board of Directors in early May, CP Ships announced a restructured executive management team. Alan Boylan is joining CP Ships as Executive Vice President Commercial for Montreal Gateway, Australasia and Middle East/India. Lehman Brothers initiated coverage of British logistics group Exel Plc with a "market perform" recommendation and a target price of 1,090 pence. Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein said on Tuesday it had upgraded its recommendation for British distribution and logistics firm Exel Plc to "buy" from "add", noting a global economic slowdown would accelerate outsourcing. CP Ships Has Good 1Q; Rich Named New Chairman

CP Ships Limited announced unaudited operating income of $29 million for the first quarter 2005, more than double first quarter 2004. Net income was $15 million against $3 million. The quarterly dividend has been increased from $0.04 to $0.06 per share. The Board of CP Ships Limited also announced that it intends to appoint Nigel Rich as non-executive Chairman. It also confirmed that Ray Miles will continue to exercise overall executive responsibility as acting Chief Executive Officer until the appointment of a new CEO. "I am delighted that Nigel has agreed to become Chairman. We will benefit greatly from his experience," said Ray Miles. "And I will support him and the company fully until I step down as a director of CP Ships after a new CEO is on board, " said Ray Miles.

Ocean, NFC Merge

Ocean Group Plc has agreed to merge with rival NFC Plc to form a $4.4 billion logistics group with the world's second highest revenues. To be known as Exel Plc, it will have pro forma revenues of more than $5.6 billion. It will also have the scale and global reach to harness runaway growth in freight handling driven by e-commerce. Ocean will offer .28 new shares for each NFC share and "new Exel" - NFC is changing its name to Exel this month - will be around 50 percent-owned by each company's shareholders. The merger pairs Ocean's leading position in air freight forwarding through MSAS Global Logistics with NFC's strength in supply chain services.
