The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has selected SKYDEX Technologies to provide their shock mitigating kneeling decks to protect crews aboard their D Class Lifeboats.The D Class lifeboat is the busiest in the RNLI's fleet. Responders have called off a search for two fisherman missing following a fatal ship collision near Galveston, Texas, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Thursday.One crew member has been rescued, one is deceased and two remain missing at the conclusion of a three-day search involving the Coast Guard and local responders that covered more than 49 square miles by aerial flights, shore patrols and maritime searches.“It is never an easy decision to suspend a search," said Cmdr. Inadequate training and improper shoreside crane operations were found to be the cause of a fatal accident earlier this year in the US Coast Guard buoy yard in Homer, Alaska.A shoreside crane mishap on January 31 lead to the death of Chief Warrant Officer Michael Kozloski, who was working in the buoy yard at the time of the accident. A Coast Guard member assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Hickory (WLB-212) died following an accident at the Coast Guard buoy yard in Homer, Alaska, last Thursday.Deceased is Chief Warrant Officer, Michael Kozloski, 35-year-old male, from Mahopac, New York.According to the Coast Guard, Kozloski was injured while working in the buoy yard when a crane accident occurred. Local emergency medical services personnel performed CPR and transported him to South Peninsula Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.“It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted shipmate, husband and father following this tragic accident,” said Rear Adm. Matthew T. Bell Jr., Coast Guard 17th District commander.

The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit departed Singapore after supporting the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) Aug. 27. America will continue on its maiden deployment. While in Singapore, Sailors and Marines aboard America provided initial support for the McCain crew to include berthing for 155 Sailors, daily supplies, counseling, medical/dental services and communications network support. Additionally, America's Sailors assisted with damage control efforts by providing watchstanders and additional equipment. The December 2015 sinking of fishing vessel Orin C and fatality of a mariner on board were cause by structural failure of the vessel’s hull and subsequent flooding, according to a marine accident brief released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). After suffering an engine failure off the Massachusetts coast on December 3, 2015, the 51-foot Orin C was taken in tow by a Good Samaritan fishing vessel, the Foxy Lady. While in tow under adverse conditions, the Orin C sustained damage from a large wave, and the damage contributed to the flooding on the vessel.

A variety of U.S. Coast Guard-approved maritime training courses are being offered this spring at the San Jacinto College Maritime Technology and Training Center on the Maritime Campus in La Porte, Texas. These courses are open for companies looking to update their crews’ training and licensing and for individual mariners. With over half of Shoreham Port's employees already trained in adult emergency first aid the port offering paediatric first aid training has enabled individuals to feel more confident about delivering first aid outside of the workplace, especially if they have children or babies in their family. The Port welcomed back First Aid Co-ordinators Eddie Seaborne MBE and Karyn Ashcroft from St Vincent College this week to deliver paediatric first aid training to a number of port staff and their friends and family. Eddie commented “The Emergency First Aid at Work and How to Save a Child/Baby's Life was well received by all. Karyn added “We had parents and grandparents learning life skills in CPR, choking and bleeding of young children and babies.

Fire onboard a boat or ship is generally considered the most dangerous situation on the water. While advances in technology have helped to mitigate risk, consistently investing to upgrade a crew’s firefighting training, skills and equipment is the best means to keep crew, ship and cargo safe if disaster strikes. While innovative new fire-resistant materials and advanced fire suppression equipment onboard ships and boats has helped to improve fire security, technology alone is not a one-stop security blanket in the quest to keep crew and ship free from harm in the case of a fire.

A 51-year-old man has been medevaced from a tug in Cleveland's Inner Harbor near Whiskey Island, late Monday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. At around 4:30 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, N.Y., received a report from the tug that the crew member was not breathing and had no pulse. Sector Buffalo directed immediate launch of the ready crew from Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor to respond to the critical situation. The crew quickly arrived on scene, transferred the man to a 45-foot response boat where they began defibrillation, and administered CPR while transiting to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Edgewater Marina.
