Marine services company Harley Marine Services (HMS) has expanded its management team, naming Don Martin as Vice President and General Counsel and Steve Carlson as Vice President of Engineering, the company announced today. Prior to joining Harley Marine, Martin was the Vice President and General Counsel for Delta Western and Hawaii Petroleum where he oversaw all aspects of safety, risk management and regulatory compliance for the fuel distribution companies. Carlile Transportation Systems, one of the largest trucking and logistics companies in Alaska, has been acquired by Saltchuk Resources, a Seattle-based family of diversified transportation and petroleum distribution companies. “Our relationship with Saltchuk is 20 years long, already having been friends, vendors and customers," said Harry McDonald, Carlile CEO and cofounder. Carlile will remain a standalone company headquartered in Anchorage. “As with all of the Saltchuk companies, we will reinvest in Carlile’s assets, pursue growth opportunities and build on the very strong foundation the McDonald family has built for the future,” said Mark Tabbutt, of Saltchuk. Carlile’s 700 employees will join Saltchuk’s national team of 5,500 persons.

U.S. Barge LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vigor Industrial LLC, this week will deliver a combination Deck and Tank Barge to NorthStar Gas LLC, an Alaskan Petroleum Distributor. The CAUNEQ was christened on April 15, 2011 and will start making deliveries in May to the Yukon, Kuskokwim and Western Alaska Costal Regions. NorthStar Gas and its operating partner, Delta Western, will use this barge to service customers in Western Alaska, stabilizing the transportation costs of fuel in the region.

Delta Western, Inc., Anchorage, Alaska, is being awarded a $63.7m fixed price with economic price adjustment contract for fuel products and delivery services. Using services are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Federal Civilian Agencies. This acquisition is a partial set aside of 3 percent with the remaining 97 percent to be awarded on a competitive basis. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The proposal was originally solicited with 12 responses. Date of performance completion is September 30, 2011. The contracting activity is Defense Energy Supply Center (DESC), Fort Belvoir, Va.

A multi-agency pollution response training event will be conducted in the Juneau area during this week from May 13-15. The exercise is being coordinated under the Preparedness for Response Exercise Program, which has established requirements for periodically exercising oil spill response contingency plans throughout the country. A joint exercise team, consisting of local oil spill response planners, has been meeting to plan this exercise since January. A specialized team of Coast Guard exercise planners from the National Strike Force Coordination Center in North Carolina facilitated the team throughout the planning process. The Juneau Delta Western facility volunteered to participate as the lead industry planner for the exercise.

Crowley acquired the Alaska-based fuel distribution business of Northland Fuel, LLC. The purchase consists of the assets of Yukon Fuel Company, Northland Vessel Leasing and the stock of Service Oil and Gas, Inc. Crowley has also acquired the assets of Yutana Barge Lines, LLC from an affiliated company. The acquired businesses will be added to Crowley's newly formed Petroleum Services business segment. Service Oil and Gas will continue to operate under that brand name. As a condition of the acquisition, Crowley agrees to sell assets (including tugs, barges, and fuel storage capacity) to Delta Western, a Seattle-based petroleum distributor.
