Crowley's Ed Schlueter Announces Retirement

Ed Schlueter will retire on December 31, 2011, after 35 years with Crowley. He started with the company as a Port Engineer (Hull) in Seattle and is currently Vice President, Vessel Management Services, Inc. (VMSI). Over the years, Ed has held numerous positions, including Engineering Project Manager, Manager of Engineering, and Director of Engineering. He has lived in Seattle, Jacksonville, Copenhagen and California. Ed has been involved with and overseen the delivery of nearly 70 new building projects at Crowley.

Two More High-Bollard-Pull Ocean Tugs for Crowley

Crowley Maritime Corporation's vessel construction boom is continuing with its recent order of two additional high-bollard-pull Ocean Class tugboats from Bollinger Shipyards. The latest contract brings the number of new 10,880-horsepower tugs being constructed for Crowley to four, and adds to the more than $1b the company is investing in new tugs, high-capacity barges and articulated tug barge tank vessels (ATBs). The new tugs, Ocean Sun and Ocean Sky, will join the Ocean Wave and Ocean Wind in the Crowley fleet over the next two-and-a-half years. Crowley’s Ocean Class Tug Building Program

Crowley has signed a contract with Bollinger Shipyards to build two newly designed ocean going tugboats, with options for additional vessels. These 10,880-horsepower tugs are the beginning of a new-build program at Crowley to further enhance its ocean towing, salvage and offshore support capabilities. The new tugs will be ideally suited to work with Crowley's new 455 series heavy lift deck barges, which measure 400 ft by 105 ft and offer increased stability for loads up to 4,200 pounds per square foot.

Newest Crowley Heavy-Lift Deck Barge

Crowley's newest heavy-lift series deck barge 455-5 was christened and launched May 16 at Gunderson Marine Shipyard in Portland, Oregon - the latest in a bevy of new vessel deliveries for Crowley already this year. Engineering Development Program Launched

As part of Crowley's overall commitment to recruiting, training and retaining a talented workforce, the company last year began a port engineer's development program to provide additional career growth to individuals choosing to make their career in the maritime industry. Crowley is confident that the program will address the shortage and need for specialized skills in port engineering and shoreside management and that it will provide additional talent to aid the company in its future growth plans.

Crowley Donates $250K to Webb

Crowley Maritime Corporation presented a $250,000 check Monday to the Webb Institute, a college of naval architecture and marine engineering in Glen Cove, N.Y., to establish a leadership program in the name of former Crowley employee Marty Johnson, class of '88, who passed away last year while on company assignment. The donation which was formally presented by Crowley's Ed Schlueter, vice president vessel management services, will allow the Webb Institute to fund what it's calling the Marty Johnson '88 Leadership Program. The college will obtain a professional evaluation of its current leadership programs in order to identify areas for enhancement to further position Webb Institute as an authority in producing leading naval architecture and marine engineering professionals.

Crowley Christens 185,000-Barrel ATB

Crowley Maritime Corporation recently christened the third of ten new 185,000-barrel Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company will take delivery of by the end of 2010. The vessels christened were the 9,280 HP-tug Resolve and barge 650-3. During ceremonies held at the Mobile Convention Center on South Water Street, Nancy Schlueter, wife of Ed Schlueter, vice president of Crowley's Vessel Management Services (VMS) christened the Resolve, while Alison Haber-Djuve, wife of Karsten Djuve, regional chartering manager, BP Shipping USA, christened barge 650-3. Crowley's Petroleum Services group will charter the VT Halter Marine-built ATB from VMS, and operate it for BP under a seven-year agreement.

Crowley Forms New Technical Services Business Unit

Crowley Maritime Corporation has formed a new non-asset, knowledge-based Technical Services business unit that will bring together the company's vessel construction and naval architecture, government services and ship management services. Crowley veteran Steve Collar has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of the enterprise. He will continue to work from the company's headquarters in Jacksonville and report to Tom Crowley, chairman, president and CEO. Collar, who joined the company in 1977 as a deckhand and most recently served as vice president of bulk petroleum and chemical transportation has the knowledge and experience to lead the unit.
