PhilaPort Awaits for Container Cranes

The Port of New Orleans welcomed the return of roll-on, roll-off service with the inaugural call of the Bahri Yanbu, a new state-of-the-art multipurpose vessel, in mid-August at the Nashville Avenue Terminal Complex operated by Ports America. “The return of roll-on/roll-off service to the Port of New Orleans – for the first time since 2005 – helps us meet the diverse needs of the marketplace and increases our global competitiveness,” said Brandy D. Christian, Port of New Orleans President and CEO.

DOT Awards $10 mln for San Diego Terminal Upgrade

San Diego’s Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Modernization project is due to receive $10 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Deputy Maritime Administrator Michael J. Rodriguez announced today. The project is one of 39 federally-funded transportation projects in 34 states selected to receive a total of $500 million under the DOT’s Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) 2015 program. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced project selections for this round of TIGER grants on October 29.

Port Terminal Completes 718-Ton Project Cargo Lift

718-ton absorption tower discharged at Louisiana Ave. Fracht USA/Germany, a global freight forwarder, completed one of the heaviest project cargo lifts in the Port of New Orleans’ history January 12, discharging a 718-ton, 164-foot-long absorption tower from ship-to-barge. The SAL Amoenitas arrived at the port’s Louisiana Avenue Terminal January 10 after a 45-day trip from Shanghai, China. The lift was completed January 12 by SAL Heavy Lift, Fracht, Roll-Lift, McDonough Marine and the terminal’s stevedore - Coastal Cargo Company LLC.

Port of New Orleans Awards Terminal Build Contract

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans awarded a $13.3 million construction contract to Metairie, La.-based Hard Rock Construction LLC today for the Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal improvement project at its monthly meeting. Hard Rock Construction was the lowest of eight bidders. The 12-acre project will result in a modern and efficient intermodal container transfer terminal to facilitate the movement of marine and rail cargo, while enhancing safety and reducing the carbon footprint of the regional and national transportation system.

Port Projects Awarded $62 Million in TIGER III Infrastructure Grants; Critical importance of connective infrastructure to America’s seaports recognized. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced that 46 transportation projects in 33 states and Puerto Rico will receive a total of $511 million from the third round of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s popular TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grants program. The Department of Transportation received 848 project applications requesting a total of $14.29 billion.

Port of New Orleans seeks State Help

Officials with the Port of New Orleans called on the state to help pay for its $1b master plan, which outlines development projects to be completed by 2020, the Times Picayune reported. Port President and CEO Gary P. LaGrange said his agency needs far more than the $25m Gov. Bobby Jindal promised to dedicate to the expansion of the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal, the centerpiece of the port's master plan. Jindal asked the Legislature this week to dedicate about $28 million of the state's $1 billion budget surplus to the Port of New Orleans. The bulk of that, or about $25 million, would go to building the second phase of the port's Napoleon Avenue terminal.
