Calhoun Steps In as WCI's Interim President/CEO

Waterways Council, Inc. (WCI) Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun has taken over as Interim President/CEO, effective February 18, 2020, following the retirement of President/CEO Michael J. Toohey.To begin the process to select a permanent President/CEO, an executive search firm will be retained and later announced, WCI said.Calhoun has been with WCI since its founding in 2003, and with its predecessor organization Waterways Work!, and has been instrumental in managing WCI’s overall portfolio and communicating its successes and priorities.

Auxo Investment Acquires Andrie LLC

Private investment firm Auxo Investment Partners said it is partnering with the Andrie family with an investment in Andrie LLC, a Michigan-based Jones Act bulk transporter of specialty products including liquid asphalt, cement, light oil petroleum products, and calcium chloride throughout the Great Lakes. The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, marks Auxo’s sixth acquisition in 16 months, and builds on the firm’s December 2017 acquisition of M/G Transport Services, a leading dry-bulk transportation and logistics company based in New Orleans.Andrie, founded in 1988, is a company serving the Great Lakes, working extensively with large global customers.

Meercat Workboats’ Move to New Premises

Meercat Workboats yesterday moved from Portchester to new, purpose built premises in Hythe Marine Park, Southampton, UK. To coincide with the move the company’s management team has been restructured, two new vessels have been delivered and one new order confirmed. The new site is 1,600 sqm, has two 20-tonne gantry cranes, a machine shop, an electrical workshop, a hydraulic workshop, aluminum welding bays, steel fabrication bays, dedicated stores, offices and customer parking. A sum of circa £500,000 has been invested in the move. Late in September Meercat Workboats delivered two new build vessels: MC26 into the Aquaculture sector and MC28 to a Marine Civils Contractor. The company has relocated in time to conclude two further builds: MC27 (a 14m workboat) and MC29 (a 15m workboat).

Incat Crowther Wins Australian Export Award

Incat Crowther has been chosen as the National Winner for the CPA Australia Business Services Award. The award is given for outstanding international success in Professional Business Services with Incat Crowther demonstrating outstanding success in the export of Engineering Services. The Australian Export Awards are a national program recognising Australian businesses for their export achievement and contribution to Australia’s economic prosperity. The award was presented at a gala dinner held at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane, hosted by the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon Steven Ciobo MP. Having won the NSW Premiers Award for Business Services in October, the company progressed to the national level.

Sonar Synthetic Aparture IP Rights Secured by Kraken

Kraken Sonar Systems acquires all Intellectual Property (IP) rights to the AquaPix® Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) technology platform from Marport Deep Sea Technologies Inc. The SAS technology assets consist of all hardware and software intellectual property targeted to military and commercial applications. The transaction had an effective closing date of December 31, 2012. A number of different underwater activities rely on high quality seabed imaging. Offshore exploration, ocean science, seabed mapping and military missions are examples of applications with growing demands for improved seabed image resolution. Until recently, sidescan sonars and multibeam echo-sounders have been the leading technology for detailed mapping and imaging of the seafloor.

EIVA CEO Hansen Resigns

The board of directors of maritime and offshore software provider EIVA has accepted Lars Hansen’s resignation as CEO. Hansen has accepted a new management position in the United States and will relocate to the US with his family towards the end of the year. “We have appreciated Lars’ dedicated management style and straightforward way of communicating during the time we have had the pleasure of working with him. We wish Lars and his family all the best on their relocation to the US”, said Frans Boch, Chairman of the Board as comment from the board of directors of EIVA. The board of directors has initiated the process of recruiting a new CEO.

Crowley To Acquire Marine Transport Corporation

Crowley Maritime Corporation and Marine Transport Corporation jointly announced that Crowley has agreed to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Marine Transport Corporation for $7.00 per share. Under the agreement entered into by the parties, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Crowley will commence a tender offer within the next 10 business days. The transaction is conditioned upon a minimum number of Marine Transport's shares being tendered, regulatory approvals, and other standard closing conditions. The tender offer is not conditioned upon financing. Thomas B. Crowley, Jr., Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Crowley, said "Our investment in Marine Transport is a unique opportunity for Crowley to add a complementary business line to our present maritime activities.

Carnival's Dickinson to Retire

Bob Dickinson, president and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines, will retire at the end of the year. He will remain on the company's board of directors. Gerry Cahill, executive vice president and CFO of Carnival Corporation & plc, will assume Dickinson's responsibilities as president and CEO effective immediately so that there is an ample transition period. David Bernstein, Carnival Corporation & plc's vice president and treasurer, will become the company's CFO, also effective immediately. "I have been blessed to have had a long, fun-filled career helping to build Carnival and the cruise industry. I'm still having fun so giving all of that up has been a very difficult decision but I'll be 65 next month and have been pondering this with my family for some time," Dickinson said.

V.Ships MSI, CSCL form new Shipmanagement Company

V.Ships (Asia) MSI Pte Ltd and China Shipping Container Lines announced the formation of a new ship management company, set up to manage four 9600 TEUS container ships. The joint venture company, China International Ship Management Co. Ltd (CISM), will be based in Shanghai and will be fully operational on 1st June 2006. The formation of CISM follows China Shipping Group’s newbuilding order for four 9600 TEU container ships at Samsung, Korea – vessels that will become the largest container ship in the world, both in size and engine capacity.
