Crowley Maritime Corporation announced Brett Bennett will join the company August 3 as senior vice president and general manager of Crowley Logistics, succeeding Steve Collar, who retired last month after a 43-year career with Crowley. He will report to Ray Fitzgerald, Crowley’s chief operating officer, and work from the corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.Bennett comes to Crowley from Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions where he served as senior vice president and head of global terminals and stevedoring.

Crowley Urges Against Pilotage Fee Hike in Port Everglades

Port Everglades' largest tenant is urging the Florida Board of Pilot Commissioners to reject a proposed fee increase for harbor pilot services that it says would unfairly raise average pilotage costs more than 100 percent for shipping lines that call frequently at the port.While the proposed fee structure would decrease fees for cruise ships, it would hike the costs for companies that operate frequent-call feeder vessels that sail in and out of Port Everglades, Crowley Maritime Corporation said in a statement.

Crowley Launches New Caribbean Shipping Service

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s liner services group announced today that it has launched a new feeder shipping service connecting San Juan, Puerto Rico; Rio Haina, Dominican Republic; and St. Croix and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI).With the new service, vessels depart Rio Haina on Sundays and arrive in San Juan on Tuesdays. After departure on Thursdays, cargo arrives in St. Thomas and St. Croix on Fridays, before the vessel moves to the Dominican Republic again for Sunday operations.

Crowley Adds New Container Shipping Service

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that it is launching a new weekly fixed-day container shipping service between Jacksonville and Costa Rica. Crowley Continues Fleet Upgrade

Crowley Maritime Corp. is continuing to receive and place into service $32.7 million worth of new cargo carrying equipment. The latest additions include 325, 20-foot chassis and 440 generator sets (gensets) all of which should be received by the end of April and 600, 53-foot (102-inch wide) dry containers along with 400, 53-foot chassis, which are expected by the end of May. These arrivals follow 500, 45-foot (102-inch wide) dry containers and 400, 40-foot high cube refrigerated (reefer) containers which were received at the end of 2015.

Crowley Invests $25.5 Mln in Containers

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s liner services group has invested $25.5 million in new cargo carrying equipment. The units will include 325 x 20-foot chassis, 500 x 45-foot (102-inch wide) dry containers, 600 x 53-foot (102-inch wide) dry containers, 400 x 53-foot chassis and 440 generator sets (gensets), some of which are underslung and some that are nosemount. This latest upgrade to the equipment fleet follows the company’s acquisition earlier this month of 400 new 40-foot, high-cube refrigerated (reefer) cargo containers for use by perishables customers in Central America and the Caribbean.

Enhanced Satellite Connectivity in Papua New Guinea

Global satellite communications service provider SpeedCast International Limited has entered into an agreement with O3b Networks, where O3b will provide capacity for Papua New Guinea via its Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite constellation. The O3b-based service will allow SpeedCast to deliver high throughput and low latency internet services to local customers. SpeedCast’s high bandwidth new IP Trunk from Port Moresby to the international Internet backbone will enable high throughput voice and data services, whose performance will be similar to or even exceed that of traditional fiber connectivity, SpeedCast said. O3b’s MEO configuration provides low latency in satellite communications of less than 150 milliseconds.

Crowley Adds 537 Refrigerated Containers

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s liner services group has added 537 new refrigerated (reefer) cargo containers to its fleet of equipment in an accentuated effort to serve the growing needs of its produce customers in Central America, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. All of the units received are 40-foot high cubes built to Crowley’s personalized standards. This recent acquisition will expand the fleet by 200 units in anticipation of market growth and will replace another 337 aging units.

Crowley & Seaboard Marine in Vessel Sharing Agreement

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s liner services group and Seaboard Marine Ltd. announced a new vessel sharing agreement (VSA) that will provide customers of both companies with reliable, weekly service on larger ships between South Fla., Costa Rica and Panama. By sharing vessel space, Crowley and Seaboard will increase total capacity in the trade by using two 2,500-TEU-capacity vessels, resulting in a continued high level of service, a more efficient operation and reduced carbon emissions in the trade lane.

O3b Networks contracted by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, to provide high-speed satellite-delivered broadband service aboard 'Allure of the Seas'. The new contract will allow more than 8,000 guests, staff and crew members traveling the Caribbean to connect to the internet at fiber-like speeds at sea.
