ABB to Power First South American Built Hybrid-electric Polar Expedition Cruise Ship

ABB has been selected by the Astilleros y Servicios Navales S.A. (ASENAV) shipyard based in Chile to provide a power and propulsion system for Antarctica21’s newbuild boutique expedition ship Magellan Discoverer. Rolls-Royce Wins S. American Contracts

Rolls-Royce won contracts for six platform supply vessels (PSV) worth around £45 million, including the first offshore orders from Chile. CBO (Companhia Brasileira de Offshore) has ordered four UT-Design type UT 715 L offshore supply vessel design and equipment packages. The 3,000 tonne deadweight PSVs are to be built by Allianca shipyard near Rio de Janeiro for delivery in 2009 and 2010. The vessels will go straight into long-term charters with the Brazilian state oil company, Petrobras. The other UT-Design contract is from the Chilean shipyard Asnavales (Astilleros y Servicios Navales) S.A, which is to build two UT 745 CD (clean design) supply vessels for an international shipowner.

Cruise Vessel for Chilean Patagonia

The coastal scenery of Chile’s Patagonia supports a growing cruise industry that welcomed its latest entrant when the MV Atmosphere was launched at the Astilleros y Servicios Navales S.A. (ASENAV) shipyard at Valdivia in the South of Chile. The owners of the new 45 by 10-meter ship are promising deluxe accommodation for 36 passengers to be cared for by a crew of 24. Following her November delivery, the ship will cruise the central and southern Chilean Patagonia, covering over 750 kilometers/405 nautical miles from the bay of Puerto Montt (latitude 41°28' S and longitude 72°56' W) to the Taitao peninsula (latitude 46°41' S and longitude 73°57' W).
