The Akademi Maritim (AKMI) Suaka Bahari Cirebon has selected VSTEP for the supply of one DNV Class A FMB Simulator to train its students in accordance with the latest IMO requirements and model courses. On August 22, 2016, VSTEP and its local distributor PT Megatech Mandiri Setia have been awarded the contract from AKMI Suaka Bahari Cirebon to deliver a NAUTIS DNV Class A FMB simulator with 240° horizontal field of view and a NAUTIS Instructor Station. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from PT Pelindo 2, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and the Indonesian Navy. Transas Marine Pacific has successfully completed the upgrade of a simulator complex for Western Shipping Pte. Ltd. training center. With a $3.5 million price tag, the Norfolk Navigation, Seamanship, and Shiphandling Trainer (NSST) opened June 9 after a ribbon cutting ceremony presided over by Rear Adm. Kevin Quinn, commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic (SURFLANT). From a plain, nondescript brick building at Naval Station Norfolk, Sailors can now travel to foreign ports around the globe, without ever even crossing a quarterdeck. In its first successful week of operation, a brand new, state-of-the-art shiphandling simulator is proving to be an invaluable asset for improving warfighting readiness and safety among Norfolk-based Sailors, explained Lt. Cmdr. Jim Quaresimo, a training officer with SURFLANT.

Transas has commercially launched the latest version of its Engine Room Simulator, ERS 4000. The new simulator is enhanced with a number of new significant capabilities aimed at satisfying the increasing demands of users of this kind of simulation product. The modified ERS 4000 simulator features a modern design for the dedicated hardware set with new control panels, and some essential improvements have been made to the simulator’s functionality. One of these is the new configuration for the Electric Power Plant, which now includes Steam Turbo-generator and the updated Steam Plant.

Computer Sciences Corporation has received a task order from the Navy Program Executive Officer for Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) to develop shiphandling simulators and provide enhanced instructional support. The task order, which has one base year and four one-year options, has an estimated value to CSC exceeding $27 million if all options are exercised. Under the new award, CSC will provide both shore- and sea-based trainers to help naval officers improve their mariner skills under the Navy's Navigation, Seamanship and Shiphandling (NSS) program. CSC's Shiphandling Simulator software has been used to provide land-based training to the U.S. Navy for more than 15 years.

Transas has supplied a full-mission bridge simulator, Navi-Trainer Professional 3000, to the training center of Split Ship Management, Croatia, to be officially opened on March 1, 2001. This will be the most advanced simulator training facility of its type in the country. The focus of the new simulator will be the Main Bridge, which will be provided with seven visual channels permitting a 210-degree panoramic view. Other bridge equipment will consist of a maneuvering console with a conning display station and overhead panel; two ARPA/ radar stations; and an ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) console. Transas has installed a new Z-Drive Console for the full mission ships bridge simulator in the California Maritime Academy (CMA), in mid June. The Z-Drive simulator models a “reverse” tractor tug with Z-Drive propulsion modules located at the vessel's stern. The Z-Drive tractor tug simulator was provided by Transas USA, and installed by Transas and Buffalo Computer Graphics using a control console manufactured for the Academy by Seaman’s International Union of Piney Point, Maryland. A pilot course at the Academy taught by Captain Greg Brooks, one of the leading experts on tractor tugs and tug operations in the country, was conducted with students from Millenium Maritime, Inc. of San Pedro, California.

The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) will celebrate the grand opening of its marine simulation technology center on March 26. The event will include a reception, entertainment, and continuous tours of the various technology centers including the full-mission bridges, the towing simulators, the 14-station computer lab, the vessel traffic, the All-Weather Navigation, and the new crane simulator. This is one of the largest and most sophisticated class A full-mission simulators in the world and it has been upgraded and integrated into two towing, six part-tasks, and one vessel traffic simulators. Glen Paine, Executive Director of the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) and Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI) announced today that Derecktor Shipyard, on behalf of Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), awarded a contract to MITAGS for High Speed Craft (HSC) Bridge Resource Management and Simulator Training. Derecktor is building the M.V. FAIRWEATHER for AMHS, a 235'X 60' fast passenger vehicle ferry that will be powered by four Kamewa 90 waterjets and have a service speed of 32 knots. MITAGS' STN Atlas Full Mission Shiphandling Simulator, with Kamewa style controls, 360 degree theater and a 279' X 79' Fast Ferry model, will be utilized for two training sessions. The first five-day training session for six (6) AMHS officers will be held in September.
