Prior to his appointment, Buzby served as president of the National Defense Transportation Association, a position he has held since retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2013 with over 34 years of service. Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby, USN, Ret. has been sworn in as the Administrator of the Maritime Administration by U.S Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao. As Maritime Administrator, Buzby will lead the agency tasked with promoting the use of waterborne transportation and its seamless integration with other segments of the transportation system; and the development and maintenance of an adequate, well-balanced U.S. merchant marine, sufficient to carry a substantial portion of the Nation’s waterborne commerce, and capable of service in time of war or national emergency.

Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby became the 25th commander of the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command. The global command, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the ocean transportation provider for the Department of Defense - responsible for the operation of more than 110 civilian-crewed, noncombatant ships, which support military and humanitarian missions worldwide. Buzby, a 30-year Navy veteran, assumed command during a ceremony aboard Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort in Baltimore.

Computer Sciences Corporation has received a task order from the Navy Program Executive Officer for Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS) to develop shiphandling simulators and provide enhanced instructional support. The task order, which has one base year and four one-year options, has an estimated value to CSC exceeding $27 million if all options are exercised. Under the new award, CSC will provide both shore- and sea-based trainers to help naval officers improve their mariner skills under the Navy's Navigation, Seamanship and Shiphandling (NSS) program. CSC's Shiphandling Simulator software has been used to provide land-based training to the U.S. Navy for more than 15 years.

Vice Adm. Mark Fitzgerald, Director Navy Staff, relieved Cmdr. Thomas C. Graves, Commanding Officer USS Constitution, due to a loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command May 10. Cmdr.
