CSG9 Ships Participate in Singapore PASSEX

The helicopter, flown by HSL-47's Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Shawn Malone and copilot Lt. Christopher Moore, made several landings on the ship's flight deck, giving the crew of Steadfast the opportunity to practice helicopter recovery procedures including chocking and chaining (referred to as "lashing" by the Singapore Navy) and refueling evolutions. "The Singapore Navy is increasing its capabilities and acquiring H-60 type helicopters and their pilots are training at (), so this is an opportunity to work together and for us to train with them for helicopter shipboard operations," Malone said.

Lincoln Leaves San Diego, Begins TSTA

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) wrapped up two weeks of training and certification with a scheduled port visit to Naval Air Station North Island July 22-24. Lincoln’s crew enjoyed two full days of liberty in the San Diego area while the ship took on personnel and equipment from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2 in preparation for the next phase of operations. Prior to the visit, Lincoln spent its first two weeks underway since completing sea trials and a nine-month Dry-dock Planned Incremental Availability at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash. NRD NW Holds Training Aboard Lincoln
USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) hosted Sailors from Naval Recruiting District (NRD) Portland for the district’s Biannual Recruiter In Charge (RINC) Conference April 9-13. The conference provided recruiters from the region with an opportunity to meet and discuss important issues facing their community, as well as to receive training and meet other recruiters from the district. “This represents an opportunity to get all my frontline supervisors from five states together and have them interact and share ideas,” said NRD Portland’s commanding officer, Cmdr. Caroline Nielson. Chief Navy Counselor Steve Schaljo said that about 40 Sailors, including RINCs, supervising officers and guest lecturers attended the conference which was held in Lincoln’s squadron ready rooms.
“Underway” Training Prepares Crew For Sea

Sailors aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) are participating in shipwide exercises beginning March 20, which are aimed at returning the ship and its crew to operational status following an extended stay at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. General Quarters (GQ), engineering, crash and salvage, man overboard, sighting team, security, and other drills are being conducted during simulated underway periods in which the crew operate on an at sea schedule. “The fact that we’re done with most of the work we had to do in the yards means we can shift our focus now to training,” said Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class (AW) Billy Ramirez, leading petty officer of Air Department’s crash and salvage team.
