Steinberg Retires from IPS

Industrial Power Systems, Inc. (IPS) announced the retirement of Jerry Steinberg, after almost 16 years with the company as its Vice President – Sales & Marketing. Jerry is being replaced by Michael Phelan as its new Director of Sales & Marketing. Jerry graduated from the University of Illinois in 1961, and immediately after graduation joined Cummins Engine Co., where he had several domestic positions in Columbus, Indiana before moving into their International Sales organization with time living in both London, England and Sao Paulo, Brazil. This was followed by a number of years with Waukesha Engine, ending as their VP – Sales & Marketing. Jerry then had a number of years in the distribution business, working with both Power Equipment Inc. in Ohio and Reagan Equipment Co. in Florida.

Cummins New QSK60 Tier 2 Engine

Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI) has upgraded the QSK60 marine engine for propulsion and auxiliary applications to meet U.S. EPA Tier 2 and European Union Stage IIIA emissions regulations. With propulsion ratings from 1492 - 1864 kW (2100 - 2500 bhp) and auxiliary ratings from 1563 - 1900 kW (2095 - 2547 bhp), the QSK60 Tier 2 is ideally suited for high-hour demanding applications such as offshore support, towing, cargo and passenger transport, as well as ship’s service power. Cummins: Fine Tuning the Engine Line

Complying with emission rules and regulations is hardly a new topic to the engineers at Cummins Engine Co. Cummins has a long and successful history serving the more stringent automotive and industrial markets, boasting more than 25 years experience designing engines that meet demanding emission parameters and provide efficient, reliable performance. According to Conrad, with the January 1, 2000 deadline looming for compliance with new IMO standards regarding NOx emissions (see related story, page 74), Cummins is prepared to support its customers by having a full range of IMO compliant engines available in countries covered by the IMO treaty. Conrad admits that this has presented some challenges, he said the task was made simpler since the U.S.

Cummins Appoints Schertz As Sales Manager

Cummins Marine has elected Leo Schertz as North American commercial sales manager. A 12-year veteran of Cummins Engine Co., Schertz previously held assignments in engineering, customer quality and customer engineering at the company's headquarters in Columbus, Ind. and regional office in Singapore. He will be responsible for supporting the North American commercial markets including workboats, fishing vessels, transportation and oil field support.
