In the 45 years since the Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard (ASRY) opened on reclaimed land in Bahrain, the Middle East has become one of the world’s ship repair hotspots. A broad range of shipyards now service both regional and global markets.Regional yards have a ready market, with hundreds of offshore rigs working across the region together with the service ships that support them. Then there are thousands of tankers and gas carriers that arrive each year to load energy cargoes for far-flung destinations.

Damen Lays Keel for Swedish Navy Tugs

ADNOC Logistics & Services Acquires Six Stan Tugs from Damen

ADNOC Logistics & Services has acquired six line boats to provide critical marine services across petroleum ports in Abu Dhabi. The company, the shipping and maritime logistics branch of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), said all the vessels are of the Damen Stan Tug 1606 type and were contracted directly from Sharjah-based Albwardy Damen.The steel-hulled, twin-screw vessels are powered by two Caterpillar engines providing nearly 16 tonnes of bollard pull. Corps van Vletterlieden Orders Damen Tug

Damen Shipyards Group has recently signed a contract with Corps van Vletterlieden for a Stan Tug 1004. The company will use the Stan Tug for mooring, supply, crew transfer, diving support and other tasks in the Port of IJmuiden in the north of the Netherlands.Having signed the contract on October 2, Damen expects to deliver the vessel in January next year. The speed of the delivery is facilitated by Damen’s practice of building standard vessels in series.Despite the standardized nature of its vessels, Damen is able to tailor them to its clients’ requirements with options.

Great Lakes Shipyard Launches Tug Wisconsin

The Great Lakes Shipyard on Wednesday launched the new tug Wisconsin, the fifth in a series of 64-foot Damen Stan tug 1907 Ice design harbor tugs that the Cleveland, Ohio shipyard is building for The Great Lakes Towing Company.Wisconsin, like its sister tugs, is powered by two 1,000-horsepower MTU 8V4000 Tier III diesel engines, and generates over 30-tons of bollard pull. Damen Delivers Two New Vessels to RAK Ports

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered two vessels to RAK Ports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The deliveries took place on December 5th at the Ras Al Khaimah Cruise Terminal. Damen Delivers Stan Tug to Caspian Offshore

Caspian Offshore Construction has recently taken delivery of a Damen Stan Tug 1606 ICE class in Kazakhstan. The company turned to Damen when a contract they secured required fast delivery of a small ice class vessel.Damen was able to have the vessel – named Caspian Flora – underway to the client just six weeks following contract signing.The vessel was built at Damen Shipyards Changde in China, to a design that has proven enormously successful, with over 80 sold in the last fifteen years alone.

Museum Adds Tug OHIO to Exhibit

Great Lakes Towing Company (GLT), the largest U.S.-flag tugboat company engaged in towing on the Great Lakes,  christened the new Tug OHIO into service and dedicated the historic Tug OHIO as a part of  the National Museum of the Great Lakes.A press release from GLT said that the newly constructed Tug OHIO is the second Damen Stan Tug 1907 ICE design that Great Lakes Shipyard has delivered to The Great Lakes Towing Company. Damen Delivers for Murjan Al Sharq Marine

To complete an extensive oil pipeline dredging and installation project, Murjan Al Sharq Marine Contracting Co. Ltd. (MSMC) has taken delivery of three Damen vessels: a Stan Tug 1606, a Shoalbuster 2509, and a Stan Pontoon 4512 equipped with a Damen DOP Pump. For Damen, this marks the successful conclusion of a coordinated construction and delivery contract involving three shipyards in the Netherlands, China and the United Arab Emirates.The delivery ceremony of the Shoalbuster 2509 at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem was attended by MSMC Chairman Mr Abdullah Natheer and General Manager Chris Clark.

Damen Shipyards Wins Stan Tug Order from SNRTM

Dutch shipbuilding giant Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with Société de Remorquage et de Travaux Maritimes (SNRTM) for the delivery of one Damen STu 1606 that shall operate in the Mediterranean Sea in Toulon, France.According to a press release from the manufacturer tugs and workboats, high speed crafts, ferries, offshore vessels, pontoons, the contract was signed in the Netherlands at Damen’s headquarters, between Eric Arnal, Managing Director of Société de Remorquage et de Travaux Maritimes and Arnout Damen, Chief Commercial Officer of Damen Shipyards Group.Société de Remorquage was founded in 1968 by Yves ARNAL (Mr. Eric Arnal's grand-father).

Smit Lamnalco Takes Delivery of Two Tugs

Shipbuilder Damen said it has delivered the third and fourth units in a four-vessel contract to leading towage company Smit Lamnalco. All four vessels are Damen’s ASD Tug 3212 class with a bollard pull of 80 metric tons. The order was placed in November 2017 and, with stock boats available, the first two were delivered in June and these latest arrivals in October.The SL Thunggun and SL Irrong have arrived at Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory and will shortly be heading east to the Weipa bauxite mine on the Cape York Peninsular, Queensland.

Damen to Supply Two Tugs to Safeen

Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with Abu Dhabi Ports and its subsidiary Abu Dhabi Marine Services (Safeen) for the supply of two new Damen ASD Tugs 2411.The contract was signed by Captain Adil Ahmed Banihammad, the Acting Chief Marine Services Officer at Safeen, and Pascal Slingerland, Regional Sales Director for Damen Shipyards Group. Delivery of both vessels is due within three months.Abu Dhabi Ports owns and operates 11 ports and managing over 55,000 vessel calls each year. Workboats: Three Damen Stan Tugs for Corpetrolsa Group

Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with Corpetrolsa Group of Guayaquil, Ecuador, for the supply of three tugs; one Stan Tug 1205 and two Stan Tugs 1606. The tugs will be operated by Corpetrolsa subsidiary DLEN S.A. to support its bunkering operation. Corpetrolsa Group operates its own fleet of tankers in the 2,000 to 7,000 DWT range and the three new tugs will be used to assist them in the Ecuadorean ports of Esmeraldas and La Libertad. The vessels were already in stock at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem and will be supplied in their standard format without modifications.

Two New Patrol Boats for Pakistan Customs

Pakistan Customs has taken delivery of two Damen Stan Patrol 1605 FRP patrol boats. The handover ceremony took place on March 10 at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW). The celebrationwas attended by distinguished guests including Dr Miftah Ismail, advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance, Revenue & Economic Affairs, Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Collector Pakistan Customs, Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah, Managing Director of KS&EWand Mrs. ArdiStoios-Braken, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The vessels were built by KS&EWwith technical and material support from Damen.The entire project took just eight months and was completed successfully thanks to the high level of cooperation and trust between the two partners.

First Class Approved 3D Printed Ship’s Propeller Unveiled

The world’s first Class approved 3D printed ship’s propeller, the WAAMpeller, has been unveiled following rigorous testing verified by Bureau Veritas at Damen Shipyard Group’s headquarters in the Netherlands. The groundbreaking propeller is the result of collaboration between RAMLAB, Promarin, Autodesk, Bureau Veritas and Damen, who started pooling collective resources and knowledge to develop the world’s first 3D printed ship’s propeller seven months ago. Promarin provided the design of the triple-blade propeller.

3D Printed Ship’s Propeller Prototype Produced

A prototype of the world’s first class approved ship’s propeller manufactured using 3D printing techniques has been produced by a cooperative consortium of companies that includes Damen Shipyards Group, Rotterdam Additive Manufacturing LAB (RAMLAB), Promarin, Autodesk and Bureau Veritas. The 1,350mm diameter propeller – named WAAMpeller – was fabricated from a Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB) alloy at RAMLAB in the Port of Rotterdam. The propeller was produced with the Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) method using a Valk welding system and Autodesk software.

Great Lakes Shipyard Builds First Damen Stan Tug

The first of 10 Stan Tug 1907 ICE vessels has been delivered by Great Lakes Shipyard to its sister company The Great Lakes Towing Company, both based in Ohio, U.S. Named Cleveland, the vessel marks a milestone in a licencing program agreed between Damen Shipyards Group and Great Lakes Shipyard following discussions that began in 2014. While the initial agreement is for the series build of 10 tugs for Great Lakes Towing, the vessels will also be available to third party buyers on a priority basis. The Stan Tug 1907 ICE is a compact design capable of 30-tons of bollard pull.

Ocean Group Takes Delivery of First Damen Tug

Italian maritime service provider Ocean S.r.l. has welcomed its first Damen tug – a Stan Tug 2608 – into its fleet. The company, part of the Ocean-Team Group, will deploy the vessel in harbor towage operations in the ports of Monfalcone and Porto Nogaro in the northern reaches of the Adriatic Sea. The signing of the delivery protocol was attended by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, as part of a recent State Visit to Italy with a parallel Netherlands Economic Mission.

Jawar Al Khaleej Takes Delivery of Two Vessels

Jawar Al Khaleej Shipping LLC (JAK), a provider of specialist services to the offshore oil and gas sector in the Arabian Gulf, has taken delivery of a Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 5009 and an ASD 3213 tug for operations at the Al Basra (ABOT) and Khor Al Amaya (KAAOT ) oil terminals. Between them, these facilities handle more than 90 percent of Iraq’s crude oil exports. The FCS 5009 is named the Jawar Abu Dhabi and the ASD 3213 is the Jawar Faw. A second ASD 3213, the Jawar Um Qasr, is due for delivery shortly.
