IRClass (Indian Register of Shipping) has just completed the new construction survey of a high value, technologically sophisticated Buoy Tender cum multi-purpose vessel built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (India) under single class. The new vessel MV Indira Point, 72 mts long,1350 tons DWT, fitted with Hele-deck and a 35 tons capacity crane for handling buoys in deep seaswas handed over to the Directorate General of Light Houses and Light Ships(DGLL India) in April after completing ahead of schedule by the yard under close supervision of IRClass.

The vessel, built at a cost of approx. USD 25 million, was delivered two months ahead of schedule. IRClass Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Mr Arun Sharma said “This single class project and its successful completion represents a major step forward for IRClass.

“Not only was the vessel delivered early, IRClass was also able to offer significant technical inputs to the Cochin shipyard and this relationship bodes well for the future as we believe there will be further orders for this kind of sophisticated vessel.

“The on time to specification delivery shows IRClass is now able to handle some of the most sophisticated tonnage and we hope to win more as a result of this progress.

This is an apt example of ‘Make in India’ where a ship for DGLLis built by Cochin Shipyardwith the construction overseen by SCI and classed by IRClass under the Indian flag”

The work of IRClass was appreciated by the Chairman & Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard in his address at the time of delivery of the vessel - “I am proud to state that CSL has been able to deliver the ship two months ahead of time of the contractual delivery date. This has been possible because of the excellent team work between all stake holders, the Ministry, DGLL, CSL, SCI and IRS. Both IRS & SCI have played an important role in the construction of the ship. Both have ensured that the ship is built as per specifications.”
