Shipping.dk, part of USTC Group, has acquired Maersk Broker Agency. Maersk Broker Agency will be merged with Shipping.dk.

The acquisition is part of the Denmark-based shipping and logistics company's plan to expand its position as a significant player in Scandinavian agency and stevedoring (loading and unloading) operations.

"The acquisition strengthens and deepens our activities and platforms in Scandinavia and is also highly experienced and qualified staff on board," said Soren Gran Hansen, CEO of Shipping.dk in a press release. This acquisition by, is in-line with the company's plans of increased growth and specialisation in its core business.

The company had, according to the latest accounts 143 employees. Following the acquisition of Maersk Broker is the number of employees at the 170th.

"We are of the firm belief that Shipping.dk will further develop Maersk Broker Agency. It was crucial to find the right future home for our loyal and skilled employees," says Anders Hald, CEO, Maersk Broker.

Maersk Broker began looking for a buyer in the Autumn as it opted to focus on its core shipbroking activity. Maersk Broker Agency, founded by AP Moller in 1915, is described as a strong strategic match by Shipping.dk Torben Ostergaard-Nielsen. It is not clear how much profit Maersk Broker will book from the sale.

Shipping.dk is one of the three main divisions of Torben Østergaard-Nielsen United Shipping & Trading Company. The other two are oil trading and shipping.
