ECO Affiliates Ink 5-Year Deal with Shell for IMR Vessel

Two affiliates of Louisiana-based Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) have signed a five-year contract with Shell Brazil for light subsea construction, and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) services from the M/V Island Enforcer, a 402-ft. subsea installation and construction vessel. ULSTEIN Delivers Seismic RV

ULSTEIN delivered the seismic research vessel Oceanic Sirius to Eidesvik and CGGVeritas on 3 October. Oceanic Sirius is designed and built in accordance with strict environmental standards and equipped with state-of-the-art technology for advanced seismic research operations. She is owned by a joint venture between Eidesvik and CGGVeritas. The vessel was named in a ceremony in Ulsteinvik on 1 October. Oceanic Sirius is sister vessel to the Oceanic Vega, delivered by ULSTEIN in July 2010.

NCL First with Onboard Cell Service

NCL Corporation will be the first cruise line to bring passengers on North American cruises the ability to use their cell phones even when communications towers are oceans away. The company is providing the innovative new offering through Wireless Maritime Services, a joint venture of AT&T Wireless and Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN). Leading the way in shipboard technology, NCL pioneered the industry's first Internet access on the high seas with its Internet cafe in 1999. In 2002, NCL became the first cruise line to provide remote wireless Internet (also known as Wi-Fi) to its guests. Both services are now standard throughout NCL's entire fleet. "Cutting-edge onboard technology is important to our guests," said Colin Veitch, NCL's president and CEO.

Dench Serves as Carnival Legend Godmother

Dame Judi Dench, star of "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Shakespeare in Love" and the three latest James Bond 007 films, served as godmother to Carnival Cruise Lines' newest ship, Carnival Legend, at an official naming ceremony in Harwich, England, Wednesday, August 21. Oscar-winner Dench broke the traditional bottle of champagne against the ship's hull to officially name Carnival Legend. Dench was named a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1988. Built in Finland, the 88,500-ton 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend features 12 passenger decks, 16 bars and lounges, four swimming pools, a three-deck water slide, Internet cafe, 14,500-square-foot health spa, duty-free shopping mall, wedding chapel, video arcade, 1,800-square-ft. children's play area and three restaurants.

MTN to Deploy Network Equipment and Software on Norwegian Cruise Line Ships

PCTEL, Inc. confirmed that it is providing its wireless access hardware and software products to the cruise line industry through its commercial agreement with Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN). MTN Separately announced its successful deployment of the PCTEL Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) products. MTN, a provider of maritime communications deployed PCTEL's WLAN Network Gateway, Roaming Client and Installation Wizard software products on the Norwegian Sun, a vessel in the Norwegian Cruise Line. MTN has plans to deploy PCTEL's wireless access solutions on other cruise ships in the near future. Passengers may now bring their personal laptops onboard the Norwegian Sun and use a wireless connection to the Internet.
