US West Coast Ports Gained Market Share After Labor Deal

US Container Imports Retreat to Pre-pandemic Level

U.S. imports of goods in ocean shipping containers in December fell to levels approaching those last seen before the COVID-19 pandemic, a new report said on Tuesday.Demand for kitchen appliances, furniture, big-screen TVs, apparel and other retail goods softened late last year as record inflation bit into disposable income and consumers shifted spending back to travel and other previously restricted activities.December 2022 U.S. container import volume topped 1.9 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), according to Descartes Systems Group.

Europe to Attract Women Seafarers

A crew member reportedly suffering from a heart attack was air lifted by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew from a cable-laying vessel 80 miles west of Coos Bay, Ore. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend on Thursday safely transferred the 55-year-old ailing Frenchman to emergency medical personnel at 6:33 a.m., who transported him to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. GTT Earns Five AIPs for Multi-gas Membranes

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), designer of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) announced five AIPs for transportation of liquefied gases other than LNG. As an outcome of the shale gas revolution in the U.S., there is an abundant supply of ethane. In order to use this ethane, it must be transported, consequently, interest in ethane as a cargo is on the rise, giving way to the need for dedicated vessels. John W. Young, USN Commander of Apollo 16. He was the ninth man to walk on the moon. LCDR Thomas K. Mattingly II, USN was the Command Module Pilot. During the 11 day, 1 hour and 51 minute mission, 213 lbs. of lunar material was collected. Ocean Carriers and NVOCCs Select Descartes

Descartes Systems Group announced that ocean carriers and nonvessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs) have selected Descartes' Japan Ocean Advanced Filing Rule (AFR) solution to help them comply with Japan's new advanced cargo security initiative, which takes effect March 10, 2014. Japan's AFR mandate requires ocean carriers and NVOCCs to electronically submit data to Japan Customs on maritime container cargo intended for a port in Japan no later than 24 hours before departure of the vessel from the port of loading.

Descartes Systems Group announced that in conjunction with Nippon Automated Cargo and Port Consolidation System (NACCS) it has launched a number of education sessions around the world to help ocean carriers and forwarders prepare for the upcoming Japan Advanced Filing Requirement (AFR).
