H2Carrier Names New Chief Commercial Officer

H2Carrier announced that Michael Kristensen has joined the company as chief commercial officer. His main focus short term will be business development and contributing to maturing H2C’s current portfolio of energy projects.Kristensen has worked for 30 years in the maritime and energy sectors in different positions and for companies such as J. Lauritzen, NYK, Alcatel Submarine Networks, Axis Offshore and Prosafe. Kristensen worked as COO in Axis offshore for five years before the company was sold by HitechVision to Prosafe in 2017.

Lauritzen Adds Three Secondhand Bulk Carriers

Lauritzen Bulkers announced it has taken full ownership of three additional secondhand bulk carrier vessels in the month of August.The three geared capesizes were built between 2015 and 2017.Asian Bulker is a handysize built in 2017 with a summer DWT of 36,169 mt, taken over by Lauritzen Bulkers on August 14.Australian Bulker is a handysize also built in 2017 with a summer DWT of 36,184 mt, taken over by Lauritzen Bulkers on August 16.Iceland Bulker (previously Glorious Mahuta) is another handysize vessel with a summer DWT of 37,775 mt and was taken over on August 24.

Worker Dies Aboard Vessel at Aberdeen's South Harbor

A worker has died as a result of injuries suffered on board a vessel docked at Aberdeen's south harbor.The Port of Aberdeen and local authorities said the worker died on scene following an onboard incident at Dunnottar Quay on Saturday."Around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, police were called to Dunnottar Quay, Aberdeen South Harbor, in Aberdeen after a report that a man had been seriously injured whilst working on a ship docked at the site," a Police Scotland spokesperson said. "Emergency services attended but the man died at the scene.

J. Lauritzen Orders Third Methanol Dual-fuel Bulk Carrier

Danish investment company J. Lauritzen announced it has ordered a third methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier from Japan's Tsuneishi Shipbuilding in an expansion of its partnership with U.S. agribusiness giant Cargill.The vessel will be a sister ship to the two 81,200 dwt Kamsarmax bulkers ordered by J. Technology group Wärtsilä has launched of its global Smart Support Center service. This service is aimed at improving asset uptime via remote access for customers of Wärtsilä’s Voyage business, thereby substantially reducing the need for physical service attendance. Operational support is delivered via virtual service engineers. World’s Largest Electric Ferry Completes Maiden Voyage

J. Lauritzen Cuts Number of Bulkers by 15

Danish shipping company J. Lauritzen has removed 15 bulk carriers from its fleet amid a weak shipping market marked by low freight rates across all dry bulk vessel sizes.The Hellerup-headquartered company’s controlled fleet stood at 68 bulk carriers in the first quarter of 2019, down from 83 units in the same quarter in 2018.J. DynaGas LNG Partners in the Red in Q3

Monaco-based owner and operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, reported a third-quarter ended September 30, 2018 loss of $654,000, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.The gas shipping company said that the Q3 results included $2.3 million of scheduled class survey and dry-docking costs related to the Yenisei River, one of the three tri-fuel diesel engine (TFDE) vessels in our fleet.The company said it had a loss of 7 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 4 cents per share. BIMCO Overhaules Standard Ship Repair Contracts

BIMCO, the largest of the international shipping associations representing shipowners, said that it has revised and updated its two standard ship repair contracts: REPAIRCON, which is for major work at a repair yard; and MINREPCON, which is for minor repair work that can be done by contractors when a ship is in port.Both contracts were approved at BIMCO’s Documentary Committee in Copenhagen on 13 November. Modifications and improvements have been made to the REPAIRCON contract, while MINREPCON has undergone a full review, said a release from the company.“Ship repair is a major undertaking and it’s important that both parties are fully aware of their respective part in the process.

Shipowners See Increase in IMO-Compliant Fuels, But Doubts Persist

Shipowners, who are facing one of the biggest changes in the oil industry in decades, are seeing more fuels that will be compliant with new rules on sulphur emissions from ships, but some say the way forward is far from clear.The United Nations shipping agency the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will from January 2020 limit the sulphur content in fuel ships use to 0.5%.With the exception of some zones around northwest Europe and North America known as Emission Control Areas where maximum sulphur content is restricted to 0.1% sulphur, the current global cap is 3.5%.The sulphur switch will be a mammoth task as it requires adapting the 300 million tonne a year bunker fuel market…

Dynagas LNG Partners Gets Extension of Yamal LNG TC

Dynagas LNG Partners has entered into an agreement with Yamal Trade for the early commencement of the long term charter contract for employment of the ice class liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Yenisei River in the Yamal LNG Project. The owner and operator of LNG carriers said that pursuant to this agreement, the Yenisei River will commence operating 180 days earlier and as a result, the firm charter period has been extended from 15 years to 15 years plus 180 days.
