Fire Stricken Box Ship SSL Kolkata Sits Aground

Responders are facing challenging monsoon season conditions as they work to salvage a containership that caught fire and grounded in the in the Bay of Bengal last month.The stricken containership SSL Kolkata remains aground in soft mud some 7.5 nautical miles off the Indian Sunderbans, Kolkata, West Bengal, after an explosion in one of the containers lit a fire on board the vessel on June 13.An oil spill response team from OSRL has arrived on scene and is the process of managing the counter pollution operations as responders battle challenging weather conditionsā€¦

T&T Salvage Refloats Containership

T&T Salvage and their strategic response partner, Cabras Marine, successfully refloated a 17,000 ton fully cellular containership that went aground near Micro Beach in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. The prompt action of the Hamburg based vessel owners resulted in the immediate activation of their OPA 90 Vessel Response Plan (VRP) and T&T Salvage as its pre-contracted salvage provider. Tugs, pollution response gear, specialty pumping gear, and a 12-strong T&T-Cabras Marine team was dispatched to manage the salvage operation.

Donjon Awarded Contract in Gibraltar

Donjon Marine was awarded a contract to remove and dispose of the M/V Fedra in Gibraltar, the southern-most tip of the Iberian Peninsula that borders Spain.

Donjon Marine, Co., Inc., a provider of multi-faceted marine services including marine salvage, heavy lift, dredging and related emergency response services, was awarded a contract on March 24, 2009 for the wreck removal and disposal of the remnants of the M/V Fedra. On October 10, 2008, during a significant storm, the M/V Fedra grounded and subsequently sank off the eastern side of Europa Point in Gibraltar in approximately 20 feet of water. As a result of the grounding and pounding of the vessel due to sea conditions, the vessel separated in two pieces at the forward end of No. 6 Cargo Hold.
