Kirby Announces 2019 Q2 Financials

Kirby Corporation (“Kirby”) (NYSE: KEX) has announced net earnings attributable to Kirby for the second quarter ended June 30, 2019 of $47.3 million, or $0.79 per share, compared with earnings of $28.6 million, or $0.48 per share, for the 2018 second quarter. Excluding a one-time charge related to the retirement of Kirby’s Executive Chairman, 2018 second quarter net earnings attributable to Kirby were $46.8 million, or $0.78 per share. Container Equipment Prices Put Pressure on Ship Leasing: Drewry

Container equipment rental rates and cash investment returns remain weak, despite last year’s recovery. But an earlier rise in container prices which lifted values to their highest level in five years will continue to put a dampener on returns, according to Drewry’s latest Container Census & Leasing annual review and forecast report, published this month. Long-term lease rates for standard dry equipment leapt by over 50% in 2017, having begun their recovery the year before as the Hanjin bankruptcy left large quantities of equipment impounded and therefore out of the market. But newbuild prices rose by a similar margin, limiting cash investment returns to around 9%.

Trac-Wheels Signs Contract for 10 Kalmar Tractors

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with  Malaysia-based supply and installation company Trac-Wheels (M) Sdn Bhd, for an order of ten units of Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2017 fourth quarter order intake and it is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2018. The Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor is specifically built for Asia-Pacific and was launched to the market in November. Trac-Wheels will lease the new machines to its Miri Port and Tanjung Manis Port terminals in East Malaysia, further enhancing their capabilities of integrated cargo handling solutions. Exactly 10 years after Lifting Gear Hire (LGH) sold the UK arm to Speedy Hire, LGH officially resumed operations in the United Kingdom during the Fall of 2016. LGH originally began operations in the UK in the 1970s, founded by Bill Parkinson, now lead by Chairman, Ian Parkinson. Container Equipment Leasing Rates Hit Record Lows

Container equipment rental rates came under renewed pressure in 2014 and by mid-2015 new dry freight pricing was at a 10-year low, while lease rates had fallen to an all-time low, according to the latest edition of the Container Leasing report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. LGH’s Kansas City Warehouse Relocates

Lifting Gear Hire’s (LGH) Kansas City, Mo. warehouse has relocated to a new facility within the city. The new warehouse will help LGH provide faster equipment rental turn-around times for customers in and around the Kansas City area, the company said. In addition, the new warehouse will also provide an expansive selection of rental equipment, larger scale rental equipment choices and more dock space for convenient equipment loading and unloading. EnerMech Secures $53.4m Cranes Contracts

EnerMech has secured six new or renewed cranes and lifting contracts in the UK North Sea sector valued in excess of $53.4 million. The Aberdeen headquartered mechanical engineering group agreed extensions to contracts with Apache North Sea, Maersk Oil and Marathon Oil, and first time or additional workscopes with Centrica Storage/HRL, Aker Solutions and a number of projects on behalf of Technip. The contract wins follows publication of the company’s latest accounts to December 2013 which reveal a 40% upswing in turnover, breaking the $314 million mark for the first time.

EnerMech Sets $452 Million 2014 Sales Target

Oil and gas services group EnerMech Ltd. has predicted 2014 turnover will increase to more than £280 million ($452m), a jump of £80 million ($129m) on the current year’s forecast and double the £144 million ($232m) revenue recorded in its 2012 annual accounts. The Aberdeen-based company’s 2012 group accounts showed an £11 million ($17.7m) profit (EBITDA) on revenue which grew 41% from £102 million ($165m), and it expects 2013 EBITDA to break the £20 million ($32m) barrier. Kalmar, Global Service to Develop Diesel-LNG Reachstacker

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has started a project, as the primary external industrial partner of the Greencranes pilot action, for the engineering and realization of a reachstacker prototype using dual fuel technology (diesel and liquefied natural gas, LNG).
