Growing Up Metric

Words are powerful, and “Growing up Metric,” the title of the recently released book by George Contos, the energetic CEO and second-generation ‘Contos’ leader of World Wide Metric, is a fitting title. Contos recently sat with Maritime Reporter & Engineering News in his Branchburg, N.J. headquarters to discuss how his company has grown from roughly $3 million per year when he took over in 2000, to over $20 million per year today, with its course set for $50 million by 2026.

Collar Appointed Vice President, Special Projects

Crowley Maritime Corporation veteran Steve Collar has joined Marine Transport Corporation as Vice President, Special Projects effective July 1. He is domiciled in Marine Transport's Weehawken, NJ, headquarters and reports to Jeff Miller, Vice President, Chartering. Crowley acquired Marine Transport, a U.S.-based supplier of chemical parcel transportation, refined petroleum transportation, crude oil lightering, and ship management, in February. Collar, most recently Director of Special Projects for Crowley's Vessel Management Services subsidiary, will be responsible for helping Marine Transport and its subsidiary companies develop and market Marine Transport's fleet renewal and expansion projects, and will commercially manage selected vessels.

Ieva And Cassaras Promoted At Ashland Specialty Chemical

Drew Marine, a division of Ashland Specialty Chemical Company, recently announced two promotions in its Boonton, N.J., headquarters. Ron Ieva, who has held positions at Drew Marine as senior product manager, area manager for the Southeast and Caribbean, and cruise industry business manager, has been promoted to regional sales manager for the Americas. Mike Cassaras, who has been southeast and Caribbean area manager and regional sales manager for the Americas, will now assume global responsibility as business manager for Drew Marine Safety. BSME from the Marine Maritime Academy. After attending the University of Florida, Cassaras began his career in the marine industry in 1975. Prior to his positions at Drew, he was President and Founder of Atlas Marine Services, Inc.
