StormGeo Names Carsten Mortensen as Chairman

The weather forecasting services provider StormGeo AS has appointed Carsten Mortensen as new Non-executive Chairman to its Board of Directors.He brings more than 30 years of operational experience, having held leadership positions at global Nordic companies, such as A.P. BW Group Acquires Higher Stake in Hafnia Tankers

BW Group has entered into a definitive agreement to buy a 36.3% stake in Hafnia Tankers, a shipping company formed by the management team of former Tankers Inc. The majority of the shares will be acquired through BTS, a collaboration between Blackstone-managed funds, Tufton Oceanic and Hartmann, and the balance purchased directly from certain Blackstone-managed funds. ombined with recent purchases from other shareholders, BW Group will own 43.5% of Hafnia Tankers. BW Group, Mitsui Form FSRU Joint Venture

A joint venture agreement between Japan’s Mitsui & Co. and Singapore’s BW Group Limited will see Mitsui purchase a 49 percent share in the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) BW Integrity, while BW will maintain a 51 percent share. The deal is expected to close as soon following payment for the acquisition. BW Integrity is currently in Port Qasim on a 15-year charter to PGP Consortium Limited (PGPC), to provide LNG regasification services at Pakistan’s second LNG import terminal. BW will continue to provide commercial and technical management services.

US Court Rejects Frontline's Bid to Stop BW-DHT Deal

A U.S. court has rejected a last-minute effort by billionaire investor John Fredriksen's Frontline to prevent BW Group from acquiring a major stake in rival oil tanker firm DHT Holdings, DHT said on Thursday. The New York County Supreme Court's decision means that privately-owned BW Group, led by shipping tycoon Andreas Sohmen Pao, can proceed with the sale of 11 very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to DHT in exchange for DHT's shares. OceanSaver BWTS Earns USCG Approval

OceanSaver said it has received the final type approval certificate from U.S. Coast Guard as the first ballast water treatment system (BWTS) supplier utilizing electrochlorination. This means that a USCG type approved system is now available for medium and large vessels like LR1s, VLCCs and large gas carriers. U.S. regulations require all vessels trading in U.S. waters to treat ballast water with USCG type approved ballast water treatment system before discharge. Egypt Gets FSRU from BW Gas

Norway-based BW Gas will provide Egypt with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) floating import terminal under a five-year contract. This comes as as the North African country's government grapples with energy shortages. "BW has been selected by The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) to provide LNG regasification services utilizing a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Ain Sokhna, Egypt," said a statement from the company. The floating regasification and import terminal, which converts super-cooled LNG into gas, is Egypt’s second. An import terminal from Norway’s Hoegh LNG arrived in Egypt in April, allowing Egypt to begin LNG imports. The new terminal will have a capacity of 750 million cubic feet per day, the official said.

Norden CEO Carsten Mortensen Leaving for BW Group

After 17 years with Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S, with almost 10 years as CEO, Carsten Mortensen says he has decided to resign his position as CEO of NORDEN and seek new challenges as Group CEO of the  maritime BW Group. The Board of Directors is in the process of finding a successor. Carsten Mortensen will be available to NORDEN for a [undefined] period. Mortensen has been head of NORDEN in a period when the firm has developed into one of the largest dry cargo and product tanker companies in the world. It is with regret, the Board says, that it has received Carsten Mortensen’s resignation. According to NORDEN's web site Mortensen joined NORDEN in 1997 as head of the Dry Cargo Department. He became a member of Management and was appointed COO in 2004.

Thome to Manage Its First DIS Vessel

Thome Ship Management has reached a new milestone by taking over the full management of its first vessel to be flagged under the Danish International Ship Register. The technical and crew management deal, signed with Danish ship owner Evergas, involves the 12,000 cubic metre ethylene carrier JS Greenstone which was placed under the Danish flag during a recent State visit by HM The Queen of Denmark and HRH The Prince Consort to China.
