Grounded Bulker Refloated off Oman

A bulk cement carrier that ran aground off beaches of Al-Fazayah Beach, Salalah in Oman has been refloated in one piece and without no damage to the environment, said the company behind the salvage operation, Resolve Marine Group.The partially loaded vessel, RAYSUTT II, departed Port of Salalah in May of last year when the port was evacuated due to adverse weather conditions. Grounded Bulker Refloated off Virginia Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said it oversaw the refloating of the 751-foot bulk carrier, Ornak, Friday. At approximately 9:35 a.m., the Ornak was refloated offshore of the Virginia Beach Resort and Convention Center and repositioned to the Lynnhaven anchorage. Agencies involved in the removal of the grounded ship were Svitzer, the contracted salvage company, McAllister towing, the Virginia Pilots and the Coast Guard. "Freeing this vessel from the beach was truly a collaborative effort," said Capt. John Little, the Captain of the Port of Hampton Roads.

Car Carrier Refloated off Norfolk

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said that a car carrier that grounded off Norfolk has been refloated with the assistance of two tugs. No injuries and no pollution have been reported. Source: HK Law

Eastern Queen Refloated Off India

New Mangalore, India: The Panamanian-flagged bulker Eastern Queen was refloated off New Mangalore, India, on June 8 and moved to an anchorage. The 70,196 dwt bulker sailed from New Mangalore with a cargo of 64,200 tons of iron ore for Japan, but drifted off the channel due to a sudden squall and ran aground north of the channel about two kilometers from the shoreline. All the port's tugs were immediately deployed to refloat the vessel but operations had to be abandoned due to adverse weather. During the operations both engines on the tug Varahi failed and it started to drift. Fourteen members of its crew jumped into the water wearing lifejackets and swam ashore but one suffered shock and was later pronounced dead.

Capre Flattery Rrefloated

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Press Release stating that the bulk carrier CAPE FLATTERY has been refloated off the reef near Barbers Point, Hawaii. The salvage effort required removal of most of the fuel oil and about 9,000 metric tons of the granular cement cargo. No pollution was reported. The investigation into the casualty continues.
