Zamakona Yards informs its Astilleros Zamakona shipyard will deliver new build EuskadiI Alai, the third tuna freezer vessel ordered by the Echebastar Group to the Bermeo Group Echebastar on Saturday at the maritime cruise station in Getxo, Port of Bilbao.

Present for the ceremony will be Kepa Echevarría, Deputy Director of the Echebastar Group; Pedro Garaygordóbil, Zamakona Yards´ President; and the vessel’s godmother Miren Arantza Gabancho Munitiz, member of the company that owns the tuna vessel. The event will also be attended by representatives of the Basque Government and Central Government of Seychelles, Port of Bilbao, banking, consulting, Zamakona Shipyards staff, suppliers and customers of the group and members and staff of the ship owning company.

The Euskadi Alai is construction No. 738 from the Santurce Shipyard. The builder describes the vessel ass a new design project with the latest and most modern technology, built to suit the requirements of this Owner of Bermeo. The vessel will join sister ships Izaro and Jai Alai to perform fishing activities in the Indian Ocean. Like its sisters, the new ship has aluminum superstructure and bridge, ultra freezing tunnels at -60 º and has safe areas with antipiracy media.

Notably, EuskadiI Alai features a new system of separation of caught fish that throws back to the sea the non-target fish alive with little human presence. The Echebastar group is currently in the process of assessment of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the independent organization that certifies sustainable and well managed fisheries worldwide. It is the first Spanish tropical tuna fishery to undergo MSC full assessment.
