Commercial insurer Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty released its Safety & Shipping Review, an annual analysis of shipping losses and accidents worldwide. The 2022 report reveals that the maritime sector continues its long-term positive safety trend over the past year with 54 total losses of vessels reported globally, compared with 65 a year earlier. Near-term Trading Environment Positive, DP World Says

Global port operator DP World on Thursday said the near-term trading environment was positive as it reported a 10.2% increase in first-quarter shipping containers volumes.The Dubai state-owned company handled 18.9 million shipping containers in the January-March period, compared to 17.2 million in the same period a year earlier."This performance is ahead of expectations and illustrates the resilience of the global container industry, and DP World’s continued ability to outperform the market," Chairman and Chief Executive Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said in a statement.

DP World Expects 'Relatively Stable' 2020 Financial Performance

UAE Bans Ship Over Fuel Breach

DP World Acquires 44% Stake in Swissterminal

Dubai-based global ports operator DP World has taken a 44% stake in Frenkendorf-headquartered Swissterminal Holding, the container terminal operator in Switzerland.The parties have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.Swissterminal, which is headquartered in Frenkendorf close to Basel, operates additional locations in Zurich-Niederglatt, Basel-Birsfelden, Basel-Kleinhueningen and Liestal. DP World to Invest $500 in Jeddah Port Upgrade

The global port operator DP World has been awarded a 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), for the management and development of the Jeddah South Container Terminal at the multi-purpose Jeddah Islamic Port.According to a press release from the UAE-based world leader in global supply chain solutions, under the agreement, DP World will invest up to $500 million to improve and modernize the Jeddah Islamic Port, including major infrastructure development to enable the Port to serve the ultra-large container carriers (ULCC’s), which are considered the world’s largest mega containerships.Established in 1976, the Jeddah Islamic Port is on the red sea and the largest port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with annual volumes of over 6 million TEU’s.

DP World Reports Lower Quarterly Global Cargo Volumes

Deepwater Port Posorja 1st Phase Opened

UAE Eases Qatar Shipping Ban

The United Arab Emirates has eased a ban on the shipping of goods between it and Qatar enforced under a political and economic boycott of Doha, according to port circulars and an industry source.The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain severed diplomatic, trade and transport ties with Qatar in June 2017 over allegations it supports terrorism, a charge Doha denies.An Abu Dhabi Ports circular dated Feb. 12 cancelled previous directives that banned cargoes of Qatar origin from UAE waters and ports and those of UAE origin from Qatar.It maintained a ban on vessels flying the Qatar flag
