MST Building Two Patrol Boats for the UK Navy

Merseyside, U.K.-based boatbuilder Marine Specialised Technology (MST) has been awarded a £9.9-million ($12.9 million) contract to supply two new boats to replace the U.K. Royal Navy's Gibraltar Squadron fast patrol craft used to patrol HMNB Gibraltar and British Gibraltar territorial waters. Canadian Navy Awards ELMS2 Contract to BMT

DNV GL, WindServe Ink Deal for U.S. Wind workboat

DNV GL has secured a classification contract for WindServe's new Crew Transfer Vessel.WindServe Marine, LLC (WindServe) has awarded DNV GL a contract for classification of one purpose-built offshore Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) for Ørsted North America (Ørsted). The contract covers the construction of the BMT-designed vessel, which will be the first offshore wind vessel built in the United States to class requirements.The high-speed aluminum catamaran is a custom design from the U.K.-based BMT Group (BMT), who has extensive offshore wind experience and a large portfolio of offshore wind vessels, including 49 CTVs, currently operating in Europe. Ørsted Orders CTV Pair in the US

Orsted U.S. Offshore Wind has entered into an agreement with the offshore wind support services provider WindServe Marine LLC to construct a two purpose-built offshore crew transfer vessels (CTVs).The first CTV will be built by US Workboats in Hubert, North Carolina and used for Orsted’s Coastal Virginia offshore wind farm, followed by subsequent service on northeast projects.The second CTV will be built by WindServe’s affiliate shipyard, Senesco Marine, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, specifically for Orsted’s and Eversource’s Revolution Wind project located off the southern New England coast.CTVs are the workboats that carry workers to and from offshore wind towers for construction…

BMT Bags Contracts from Samsung Heavy Industries

BMT Group’s fleet and vessel performance management company BMT SMART said it has secured a contract with shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to supply vessel performance monitoring systems for four very large crude carriers (VLCC) being built for a Greek ship owner. Haycock joins BMT after 35 years in the Royal Navy, serving on a variety of ships and in a diverse range of environments. BMT Launches Naval Innovation in London

BMT Group Ltd. (BMT) is set to launch a number of innovative warship designs at DSEI event in London. BMT reports that its platform designs have enjoyed a number of successes this year, most notably seeing the HMS Queen Elizabeth carrier (QEC) head out of the Firth of Forth and undergo her maiden sea trials, as well as welcoming RFA Tidespring, the first MARS tanker to the U.K. BMT’s VENATOR-110 which combines lean, manned and adaptable capability with the affordable procurement cost and dimensions of a Light Frigate will also feature on the stand.

EU Project Aims to Improve Arctic Shipping Safety

A three-year, €6.5 million ($7.7  million) research project has been launched to address safety and efficiency in Arctic ship operations. BMT Launches New Fleet Performance Management Solution

BMT SMART (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, has launched SMARTNOON, a new solution that can deliver higher resolution vessel performance data based on noon reports. Taking a vessel’s noon report as a starting point, SMARTNOON adds metocean data, AIS information and BMT SMART’s unique analytics to provide ship owners and operators with valuable insights, without the need for on-board installations and additional sensors, or disruptive changes to established operating behaviours. Fleet Performance Management is No Quick Win

Fleet Performance Management (FPM) can drive efficiency improvements of up to 38 percent, but many ship owners and operators are finding that FPM is costing, rather than saving them money. The expectation that once you plug and play an FPM system the savings will be immediate, has set a precedent that in real terms, is simply unachievable. Peter Mantel, Managing Director of BMT SMART, a subsidiary of BMT Group, argues that FPM is a marathon, not a sprint and long-term collaboration is required to ensure a return on their investment.

When BMT Group Ltd (BMT) current CEO Peter French retires in September, he will be succeeded by  Sarah Kenny, who joins BMT on August 1. “Sarah is well qualified to take on this role," said BMT’s Chairman, Sir John Hood. "She is ambitious for BMT and her extensive background in the marine and defence industries means she is ideally positioned to ensure that BMT’s research and development roots are cultivated and innovation nurtured. Kenny comes from QinetiQ where most recently she established and led the Maritime, Land & Weapons business as Managing Director, reporting to the Group CEO.

BMT Wins Design Contract for Four US Commuter Ferries

BMT Nigel Gee (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, has announced its latest contract in partnership with sister company BMT Designers & Planners, for four 26.3m catamaran passenger ferries, destined for operation with Potomac Riverboat Company. BMT has worked extensively with Potomac Riverboat Company to develop the concept for the new vessel and continues to support the project with production engineering to the selected builder. BMT Nigel Gee’s experience and proven designs in the fast, low wash ferry sector was a key factor in selection.

BMT Secures RoPax Ferry Design Contract

BMT Group subsidiary BMT Nigel Gee (BMT) said it has secured a new project to design an 85-meter steel-hulled catamaran RoPax ferry for Strategic Marine, a subsidiary of Triyards Holding Limited. The ferry is for Scottish ferry operator Pentland Ferries, and BMT will be responsible for concept through to production design, working closely with Strategic Marine. The vessel will replace Pentalina that has been operating on the route from the Scottish mainland to the Orkney Islands since 2008.
