Leading Shipping Equity Analyst Joins Clarkson Capital Markets

Clarkson Capital Markets, the investment banking arm of shipping services group Clarkson PLC,  says it has enhanced its equity research coverage with the appointment of Omar Nokta as Managing Director of Shipping Research. Omar will be based in CCM's New York office. Omar brings significant sector experience and expertise to Clarkson Capital Markets. He joins CCM from Global Hunter Securities LLC where he was Senior Shipping Analyst. Prior to this he was Senior Research Analyst at Dahlman Rose, where he helped build the company into one of the leading shipping focussed investment banks, advancing its energy, commodities and metals and mining product offering.

Tankship Charter Rates Slump on Persian Gulf to Asia Route

Losses widen for oil tankers hauling 2-million barrel crude cargoes on the industry's benchmark route According to Bloomberg, VLCC's on the Saudi Arabia-to-Japan voyage are losing $5,529 a day, according to data accessed by Bloomberg from the Baltic Exchange in London. Returns have been negative for 18 sessions in a row and were at minus $5,130 on July 27. The ships were earning $41,093 on April 2, the highest level this year. Earnings fell as the number of vessels hired declined and ship-fuel prices advanced, Omar Nokta, a New York-based analyst at investment bank Dahlman Rose & Co., said in a report. Source: Bloomberg

Box Ships to Acquire Two OOCL Vessels

Box Ships Inc. Enters Into Agreement To Acquire Two Vessels From OOCL And Related Financing Transaction; public offering of preferred shares and warrants commenced. Box Ships Inc. (NYSE: TEU) (the "Company"), a global shipping company specializing in the seaborne transportation of containers, announced that it has entered into agreements with subsidiaries of Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) to acquire two 5,344 TEU post-Panamax container vessels, the 1995-build OOCL Hong Kong and the 1996-build OOCL China. The purchase price per vessel is US$31.155 million, inclusive of fees and the expected dates of delivery for both vessels to the Company are to take place no later than July 14, 2012.

Ocean Rig UDW Announces Pricing of Public Offering of Shares

Nicosia, Cyprus – Ocean Rig UDW Inc., a global provider of offshore deepwater drilling services, today announced that DryShips Inc.’s previously announced public offering of Ocean Rig common shares has been upsized to 10,000,000 common shares and priced at a price to the public of $16.25 per share. All net proceeds from the sale of the common shares will be received by DryShips as the selling shareholder. The offering is expected to close on April 17, 2012. DryShips has also granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 1,500,000 additional common shares. Dry Ships Inc. Offers Ocean Rig Shares

Athens, Greece – Dry Ships Inc., a global provider of marine transportation services for dry bulk and petroleum cargoes and off-shore contract drilling oil services, announced that it is offering 9,000,000 common shares of Ocean Rig UDW Inc. (“Ocean Rig”) which it owns in an underwritten public offering pursuant to Ocean Rig’s registration statement on Form F-1, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Crude-Tanker Cargo Rises 32 Percent on Saudi Exports: Report

The supply of crude oil cargoes for the largest tankers rose 32 percent so far this year, as Saudi Arabia boosted exports to compensate for the possibility of fewer Iranian cargoes, Arctic Securities ASA said. Very large crude carriers hauled 97 million metric tons of oil in the first 11 weeks of the year, up from 73.7 million tons during the same period of 2011, Oslo-based analyst Erik Nikolai Stavseth said by phone. Shipments strengthened as Saudi Arabia boosted production before an embargo on Iranian oil takes effect in July, he said. The U.S., the world’s largest oil consumer, imported an average of 1.5 million barrels a day from Saudi Arabia this year, on course for the highest quarterly average since September, 2008, according to preliminary data from the Energy Department.

Scorpio Tankers Completes Initial Public Offering

Scorpio Tankers Inc. (NYSE: STNG) announced that it has closed on its previously announced sale of 12,500,000 shares of common stock in its initial public offering, and received net proceeds of $149.6m, after deducting underwriters' discounts and offering expenses. The underwriters have a 30-day option that commenced on March 30, 2010, to purchase up to an additional 1,875,000 shares of common stock to cover over-allotments, if any. Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated and Dahlman Rose & Company, LLC are acting as joint book-running managers and representatives of the underwriters, who include Fearnley Fonds ASA, Nordea Bank Norge ASA, DnB NOR Markets, Inc. and Fortis Bank (Nederland) N.V.

Etheredge Head of Marine Banking Group

Quintana Maritime Limited announced that its Board of Directors, after a series of discussions, has decided to evaluate strategic alternatives in order to enhance shareholder value. Navios Announces Exercise of Underwriters' Over-Allotment Option and Closing of Offering

Navios Maritime Holdings Inc., announced that the underwriters of its recent common share offering exercised the full over-allotment option granted to them by Navios. As a result of the exercise, Navios sold an additional 1,725,000 shares, bringing the total to 13,225,000 shares sold, resulting in total net proceeds of $124.8 million after deducting the underwriter discount and estimated offering expenses. Concurrent with the exercise of the over- allotment, Navios announced the closing of the share offering originally announced on May 16, 2007. J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. and Merrill Lynch & Co. acted as joint bookrunning managers of the offering. S. Goldman Advisors LLC and Dahlman Rose & Company acted as co-managers.
