New Firefighting Vessel Christened in Poland

On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the firefighting vessel Strażak-28 was ceremoniously christened in Szczecin, hoisting the Polish flag. The vessel joined the fleet of the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority SA.The event was attended, among others, by Grzegorz Witkowski – Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Zbigniew Bogucki – West Pomeranian Governor; Wojciech Zdanowicz – Director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin, Dariusz Jaguszewski – Member of the Management Board of Remontowa Shipbuilding SA…

New Firefighting Vessel Delivered in Poland

A new fireboat built by the Remontowa Shipbuilding SA shipyard in Gdańsk for Poland's Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA has been delivered in Szczecin.The new firefighting vessel Firefighter-28 left the Remontowa Shipbuilding SA shipyard in Gdańsk on November 13 and arrived at the port of Świnoujście the next day in the evening. On November 18, the delivery and acceptance protocol was signed, which means that the ship formally belongs to the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA.

WinGD Expands Global Training Network

Swiss based marine engine technology developer WinGD has expanded its global training network through a partnership with DCS POWER PTE LTD in Singapore to deliver training for optimizing engine performance and preparing crews for the fuels of the future.Located in Singapore, the new training partnership was commemorated on February 22. Preparing crews for the new future-fuel ready vessels will be delivered through a variety of both virtual and classroom-based training courses.

Shipbuilding: Remontowa Delivers Innovative 350-DWT Pair

Remontowa Shipbuiding, a member of Remontowa Holding, in Gdansk Poland delivered some impressive and innovative vessels in 2020. In October the third in a series of four electric hybrid ferries for a Norwegian customer, began sea trials, and the fourth dual-fuel (LNG/Diesel Electric) ferry for British Columbia was under construction; sophisticated vessels were built and delivered to foreign buyers.On the domestic front, the yard has also been busy, too. A pair of vessels were delivered to the Polish Maritime Authorities in Szczecin and Gdynia.

Netherlands, Poland Pact on Ports

Polish President Andrzej Duda visited the Port of Rotterdam during his State Visit to the Netherlands in connection with the 75th remembrance of the liberation of the South of the Netherlands.In the presence of Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, the Netherlands Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for a more intensive partnership between the Port of Rotterdam and the Polish Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority.The partnership will focus on consultancy, hinterland connections, strategy and digitization, said a government communication.Cooperation between Poland and the Netherlands goes back a long way.

Global Trade Center Stage at Poland’s Maritime Conference

The biggest annual gathering of Poland’s maritime industry leaders, the Maritime Economy Forum Gdynia is unveiling its program.The day-long event, now in its 19th year, takes place on October 11 in Gdynia, featuring 30 speakers with 600 senior figures from Poland’s maritime sector and around the world expected to attend.Forum chairman Slawomir Kalicki said the conference will see a morning session examine some of the biggest issues facing the international maritime sector, worth an estimated $3-$6 trillion a year, from an EU, Baltic Sea and Polish perspective.

Polsteam Gets $175mln for 34 Bulkers

Bank syndicate led by DVB Bank SE completed a $175 million financing of a 34 Bulk Carrier portfolio for Polsteam Group.Polska Ĺ»egluga Morska known as Polsteam or PĹ»M, is a cargo ship operator based in Szczecin, Poland. It has one of the largest route networks in the world, offering services to around 60 countries.The syndicate consisted of DVB Bank, CIT Group, Société Générale, BNP Paribas, Siemens Bank, Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank and Crédit Agricole Bank Polsk.No further details on the transaction have been revealed.DVB Bank SE, headquartered in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, specialises on the international Transport Finance business.

Wagenborg Closes Geodis Project

With the m.v. Marietje Hester discharged bridge sections in Frederiksværk, Denmark, Royal Royal Wagenborg shipping in total 492 concrete segments in 44 voyages from Szczecin, Poland to Denmark and successfully closes the Geodis project.Early 2018 the project started after the Danish authorities have initiated the Fjord Link project to build a new bridge over the Roskilde fjord. The 8.2 km four-lane link will be located just south of Frederikssund.The bridge is planned to open in 2019, so the final sections of the bridge need to be in Denmark by early 2019. Polskie LNG Gets Permits for Terminal Expansion

Polish LNG terminal operator Polskie LNG has obtained a set of environmental and location decisions for all projects implemented under the LNG Terminal Expansion Program.The environmental permits are final, while the decisions issued by the Governor of West Pomerania are immediately enforceable (which stems directly from the provisions of the Special Act on the LNG Terminal).The Expansion Program of President Lech Kaczyński's LNG Terminal is implemented as scheduled."The environmental decision and location permit are of fundamental importance for subsequent phases of collating pivotal project documentation such as building permits required for the investment process," said Paweł Jakubowski, President of the Management Board of Polskie LNG.Meanwhile, two tender procedures are in progress.

Polskie LNG Commences Bid for Terminal

Polskie LNG, the owner and operator of the Swinoujscie, Poland LNG terminal has published the contract notice that officially commences the tender procedure with the view to select the contractor for the terminal expansion.Polskie LNG officially informed about launching the tender procedure to select the contractor of the fourth project under the LNG Terminal Expansion Program, i.e. the construction of an additional jetty.The project is implemented in cooperation with the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority. Polish Fairway Dredging Contract Awarded

A major modernization contract for the deepening and widening of a 62 km section of the Świnoujście – Szczecin fairway in Poland has been awarded to Van Oord and DEME Group subsidiary Dredging International.The investment by the Maritime Office in Szczecin will improve access to the Szczecin seaport and increase the port capacity to handle a growing volume of cargo.The project is a design and build contract to deepen and widen the fairway along a section of approximately 62 km from -10.5 to -12.5 m. The dredged materials will be used to build two artificial islands in the Szczecin lagoon.

Poland's World Maritime Day Parallel Event

How to create better shipping for a better future was a theme running throughout the 2018 IMO World Maritime Day Parallel Event (13-15 June), held in Szczecin, Poland. “IMO's heritage for 70 years has been to drive improvements in shipping to achieve a better world today. But we cannot rest on past achievements. Poland to Host World Maritime Day Celebration

World Maritime Day is celebrated all over the world and every year International Maritime Organization (IMO) sanctions an official “Parallel Event” to formally mark the occasion away from the Organization’s London headquarters. This year it is Poland's  turn to host the Parallel Event, in the port city of Szczecin, from June 13-15. The 2018 Parallel Event will focus on four key aspects of IMO’s overall theme for its 70th anniversary year, "IMO 70: Our Heritage – Better Shipping for a Better Future". It will examine in detail green and smart shipping, big data and cyber security, new transport routes and the future of the maritime labour market.

Hoppe Marine to Present Smart Shipping Solutions

For decades, Hamburg-based Hoppe Marine has produced onboard measuring and control systems. At SMM 2016 the internationally-positioned family-run company will be present itself as a data integrator on vessels as a precondition for Smart Shipping and Big Data. “Approximately one of every eight new ships built in the world is already equipped with at least one of our systems,” said Marc Rohde, Managing Director and proprietor of Hoppe Marine GmbH, describing the development of the company since being founded in 1949.

Goliath Appears on the Polish Horizon

Mammoet, a service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, has lifted up a 120-meter-high crane for its installation in the port of Szczecin in Poland. The Goliath crane was built by Van Haagen Kraanbouw in the Netherlands and transported to the fabrication site of Bilfinger Mars Offshore. Mammoet constructed a tailor-made gantry with a height of 127 meters especially for this project – the tallest gantry ever built by the company in Europe – to execute this lifting operation. Gantries normally raise loads from an overhead beam between two supporting towers.

Smaller Operators Excel in Polish Shipyards

The huge yellow gantry cranes, cavernous sheds and slipways of the Szczecin Shipyard dominate the Port of Szczecin. At one time, 10,000 workers toiled to built as many as 21 deep-sea ships per year in this sprawling edifice. Today only a fraction of that number, perhaps 1,500, work for a diverse group of small independent marine companies who lease space in the shuttered shipyard. Polish officers have earned respect in the engine rooms and on the bridges of the international shipping fleet. With more than 4,000 full or part-time students and about 600 graduates per year the AkademiaMorska in Szczecin, Poland, is assuring the continuity of this reputation. In addition to Polish students, the Maritime University is serving international members of the maritime community with a number of English language programs. Newbuild Containerships Delivered to Rickmers

The Rickmers Group informs it has taken delivery of the first two in a series of three 9,300 TEU newbuilds acquired by the group in April while already under construction. The containerships were built at the South Korean STX shipyard and are on long-term charter to CMA CGM. The first of the three ships is the seventh vessel to carry the name R.C. Rickmers, which can trace its heritage back to the founder of the Rickmers Shipyard, and is a reference to the history and shipping tradition of the Rickmers family. Polish Cargo Ship SZAFIR Attacked off Nigeria

Pirates operating off the coast of Nigeria have taken hostage five Polish sailors, including the captain and officers, from the Polish general cargo ship Szafir. The ship was headed to the port of Onne in Nigeria from Antwerp, when the armed pirates struck, with 11 of the crew escaping harm by barricading themselves in the engine room and turning off the engines. Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said the men - including a captain and three officers - were kidnapped on Thursday night from the cargo ship. He said that the kidnappers had not yet established contact. However, Waszczykowski said they were safe and their ship had been located about 30 nautical miles off the coast of Nigeria. The exact location has not been reported.
