Fairbanks Morse's Diesel Gensets for US Navy’s New Warship

Fairbanks Morse, an EnPro Industries company, will supply the Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) sets for electric power generation system aboard the U.S. Navy’s newest America class amphibious assault warship, LHA 8. Construction of the generator sets will begin later this year. They are scheduled to be delivered to shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries in Pascagoula, Miss., in 2019. The six generator sets, powered by 12-cylinder Colt-Pielstick PA6B diesel engines will deliver 24 MW of electrical power and are some of the largest medium speed diesel engines built in the United States. Eastern Selects MAN Engines for OPC

The US Coast Guard will have MAN’s 28/33D STC engines installed as the main propulsion for its new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) programme. The programme is the replacement platform for the 13 ‘Famous’ class and 14 ‘Reliance’ class cutter vessels, making the order the largest vessel procurement order in the Coast Guard’s history. Merriman Enters New Role at Fairbanks Morse

Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, has named Rhett Merriman sales manager for marine power systems. Merriman, a veteran Fairbanks Morse manager, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role. Throughout his 36-year career he has been involved with bringing large, complex power system projects from the proposal, bidding and contract development phase through project management to successful completion. Most recently he was manager of application engineering and earlier, he served as manager of government engine sales.

Roden Joins Fairbanks Morse Engine

Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries (NYSE: NPO) company, announced that Paul Roden has joined the company as Vice President, Washington Operations. In this new role he will represent the company in discussions with Congress and with shipyards, as well as customers in the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security. Mr. Roden joins Fairbanks Morse Engine from the U.S. Coast Guard, where he retired with the rank of Captain following a distinguished service career. His most recent assignment was Chief of the Office of Naval Engineering at USCG headquarters…

Fairbanks Morse Engine Awarded Contract for LHA 6

Artist rendering of LHA 6, provided by Northrop Grumman Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, announced that they have received an award from Northrop Grumman Ship Systems to supply the generator sets for LHA 6. Six Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick 12 cylinder PA6B diesel generators rated at 4,200 kW each will provide electrical power for auxiliary propulsion and ship’s service. LHA 6 features several aviation enhancements beyond the LHD design. These include a larger hangar deck, realignment and expansion of the aviation maintenance facilities, a larger area for parts storage and support equipment, and increased fuel capacity for aircraft. LHA 6 is scheduled to be delivered in 2012.

Fairbanks Morse Engine Secures Funding

Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, will install low load upgrade kits on the LSD - 41/49 class of U.S. Navy ships following a $4 million federal spending plan secured by Wisconsin Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. The decision to upgrade the engines is based on a successful proof-of-concept trial of low load upgrade kits on the U.S.S. Oak Hill (LSD-51) for its Fairbanks Morse Opposed Piston (OP) engines that provide ship electrical service. Bay (WTGB 107). The upgrade kit extends the service life of the engines, while at the same time reducing emissions and lowering lube oil and fuel consumption rates. This technology will result in substantial cost savings and increased reliability for the U.S. Navy.
