A bulk cement carrier that ran aground off beaches of Al-Fazayah Beach, Salalah in Oman has been refloated in one piece and without no damage to the environment, said the company behind the salvage operation, Resolve Marine Group.The partially loaded vessel, RAYSUTT II, departed Port of Salalah in May of last year when the port was evacuated due to adverse weather conditions. As part of strategic efforts to increase cargo business at the Port of San Diego, the port has entered into a conditional agreement with Mitsubishi Cement Corporation (MCC), one of the largest cement companies in California, for potential future operations at Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal. The conditional agreement, which was approved by the Board of Port Commissioners on June 11, 2015, will allow the port to conduct a project review under the California Environmental Quality Act in anticipation of MCC's potential operations at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal on San Diego Bay.

The Port of Long Beach has prepared the final environmental impact report for the Mitsubishi (MCC) Cement Facility Modification Project. The port’s Board of Harbor Commissioners will consider the adequacy of the final EIR at its regular meeting May 11, and whether to approve the proposed project. Mitsubishi Cement is proposing modifications to its existing import cement facility located on Pier F at 1150 Pier F Avenue. The facility receives bulk cement and cement-like materials (including Portland cement, blast furnace slag, pozzolans, and fly ash) via bulk cargo vessels at Berth F208.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received an order from Wuhu Xinlian Shipyard in China for eight MacGregor dry bulk cement handling systems. The fully automated pneumatic systems will be installed on two 78m 12,000 bhp 150T BP anchor handling, tug, supply and oil recovery vessels and six 79m 4,000 dwt platform supply vessels. The contract includes system design and the delivery of key components, which will take place between August 2015 and January 2016. "The customer chose MacGregor's pneumatic dry bulk handling system because it offers high functionality and excellent reliability, important benefits supported by testimonials from other satisfied customers," says Francis Wong, head of Sales and Marketing at MacGregor Offshore Deck Machinery.

The Port of Long Beach this week released a draft environmental impact report examining proposed modifications to the existing Mitsubishi Cement import facility on Pier F. To gather comments on the recirculated draft EIR, a public hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the City Council Chambers, Long Beach City Hall, at 333 W. Ocean Blvd., 90802. Doors open at 6 p.m. Mitsubishi Cement is proposing to add storage, upgrade unloading equipment and install a new air pollution control system at its terminal, which receives bulk cement and cement-like materials from bulk cargo vessels. The material is stored in a warehouse and silos. It is then transported to concrete batch plants via truck.

Ongoing infrastructure and newbuild activity not expected to let up. Modern, sophisticated and quality tonnage arrives at just the right time. Vessel builders are ramped up for strong demand from the Gulf of Mexico, where oil drilling is very soon expected to return to pre-Macondo levels. Utilization rates for offshore vessels are rising in the GoM, along with associated dayrates. Three Louisiana leaders--Edison Chouest Offshore in Cut Off, Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc. in Covington and Harvey Gulf International Marine in New Orleans--are engaged in aggressive newbuild programs.

The Chouest newbuild order book contains over 40 vessels, a vast majority to be constructed at its four U.S.-affiliate shipyards: North American Shipbuilding (Larose, LA), LaShip (Houma, LA), Gulf Ship (Gulfport, MS) and Tampa Ship (Tampa, FL), as well as its Brazilian shipyard, Navship. ECO’s worldwide fleet now approaches 250 highly specialized offshore service and support vessels.

ECO’s worldwide fleet now approaches 250 highly specialized offshore service and support vessels. The largest portion of the newbuild program contains 17 vessels, with options for an additional 20, in a new class of 312’ x 66’ x 26’ new generation, clean design, diesel-electric platform supply vessels (PSV).

On November 1, 2012, Grandweld Shipyards has celebrated the keel laying of the three new 42M Aluminum Crew Boats for the repeat client Global Marine. The contract was signed in August 2012 following the successful delivery of the three sister crew boats in 2011. The series is a heavily modified version of the 41M, and is designed to reach a speed in excess of 25 knots and incorporates luxury seating, accommodation for VIP guests, larger deck space and enhanced comfort for the crew. The vessel features a total seating capacity for 83 passengers, 110sqm loading area for over 90 Tons of deck cargo handled by a deck crane, fire fighting capability, bulk cement handling, in addition to the capacity of carrying large amount of fuel and freshwater.

Cargotec can now offer electrically-driven versions of its proven range of offshore MacGregor anchor handling/ towing winches (eAHT). "This new series of electrically-driven winches inherits the best characteristics of our proven designs," says Francis Wong, Cargotec's Sales Director for offshore winch solutions. Established in 1997 as the vessel owning and operating branch of the United Arab Emirates-based Stanford Marine Group, Stanford Marine is in the midst of a major fleet expansion. Mud, Mud, Mud. Liquid mud is the name of the game in the design of today's offshore service vessels. The drilling rigs not only want huge volumes of mud, but they want the vessels that serve them to be able to carry several different types of liquid mud. That means two or three separate piping and pumping systems to keep the mud from cross contamination. That also increases demands for automated control and alarm systems, many of which utilize touch screen controls. The rigs also need dry bulk cement, barite and other such products, so dry bulk tanks with 6,000 or so cu. ft. of capacity would be desired.
