Beier Integrated Systems (Beier) informs it has purchased South Coast Electric Systems (SCES) from American Electric Technologies (AETI), expanding the its manufacturing capabilities in the marine market. Beier said it will acquire SCES’s operations, including a manufacturing plant and equipment in Bay St. Louis, Miss, and will add 13 employees of the South Coast Electric operation to its team. Beier Radio, LLC says that with Sentinel Controls it has relocated operations to a new facility in Gray, Louisiana, along the bustling Central Gulf coast near Houma. In addition, Beier Radio’s corporate office for administration and sales has moved from Belle Chasse to Mandeville, Louisiana, north of New Orleans. The move consolidates Beier Radio’s engineering, service, parts, and training departments, and Sentinel’s manufacturing operations at the new Gray campus, putting the companies in closer proximity to Port Fourchon, the intermodal port of choice for much of the Central Gulf energy activity. The new facility is located along U.S. Highway 90, providing both Beier Radio and Sentinel with more efficient access to their marine clients for equipment design, installation and service.

In today's fast moving offshore service industry with vessels venturing deeper and deeper into the Gulf of Mexico and to far off oilrigs around the world, communications is more important than ever. Today's offshore service vessels need far more ship-to-ship, ship to shore and even internal ship communications than ever before. The 240-ft. HOS Dominator built by LEEVAC Shipyards, Jennings, La; and delivered earlier this year to Hornbeck Offshore Services is a prime example of a vessel using a touch screen monitoring, sensing and alarm system. This vessel also has a GMDSS communications suite and is equipped with DP-2 dynamic positioning system. As noted in the accompanying article, alarm monitoring, tank level sensing and the control of almost every function onboard a vessel has made giant strides in just the last few years. Instead of banks of warning lights, vessel operators now use touch screen computer displays that intuitively troubleshoots a problem leading to a quicker resolution. Frank L.
