Ports of Stockholm Container Volume Zoom

A new record has been set for the number of containers transported to the Container Terminal at Frihamnen. Never before have so many containers been transported by sea directly to the strongest growing capital city region in Europe and Sweden's largest consumer market. Sharp Surge in Russian Traffic via Hamburg

Russia is the second-most important trading partner for the Port of Hamburg in terms of seaborne container handling. With a total volume of approx. 675,000 standard containers (TEU) handled between Hamburg and the Russian ports, the volume of container traffic was up by a further 13.3 per cent in 2012, consolidating the lead in foreign trade with Europe and overseas via Hamburg. This positive trend is also attributable to Russia’s decision to join the WTO, resulting in associated simplifications in commercial law as well as the dismantling of trade barriers.

New Liner Services Between Hamburg, Russia

Starting in November 2011, two new feeder line services will be scheduled for regular sailings between the Port of Hamburg and Russia. The shipping company Team Lines will be using the RUS 2 Service in the Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Hamburg – Bremerhaven – Hamburg rotation to augment its RUS 1 service handled by its own vessels with capacities of OOCL for containerised shipping to this key market region. The first ship will be sailing from Hamburg on 7 November. The Swan Container Line has also included Hamburg in its weekly schedule for its St. Petersburg service. On the Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Rotterdam – Hamburg rotation, two 900 TEU container vessels link Germany’s largest seaport with Russia.

Surge in Traffic Between Hamburg and Poland

In the first half of 2011, seaborne container traffic between Hamburg and Poland experienced a particular surge by 38 per cent, to 114,000 TEU. In this context, imports and exports from/to Poland are very well balanced at 56,000 TEU and 58,000 TEU, respectively. With a volume of 2.6 million tons of seaborne cargo in the year 2010, Hamburg is one of the most significant North Range ports for Poland. Hamburg Sees 8% Growth in Seaborne Cargo Handling

After a somewhat subdued upward trend for the first three months of the year, the Port of Hamburg now reflects signs of significant growth once again. The total of 89.4 million tons of cargo handled in the first three quarters of 2010 represents an increase of eight percent over the same period of the previous year. On the import side, Port of Hamburg Marketing – the marketing organization of the Port of Hamburg – recorded cargo-handling figures of 51.8 million tons (+11.8 percent). Exports via Hamburg also recorded a positive trend with 37.6 million tons (+3.3 percent). General cargo, the dominant segment in Hamburg, showed marked growth of 8.6 percent, with a total of 60.2 million tons handled.

Second Birthday of DCT Gdansk Terminal

On October 1, 2007 the construction of Deepwater Container Terminal Gdansk was completed and the terminal officially opened. DCT Gdansk is the newest and most modern container terminal in the Baltic region. After two years of operational activity, the terminal developed cooperation with many customers among freight forwarders, shipping lines, rail operators and transport companies. The terminal’s turnover is continues to increase and DCT Gdansk handled over 100 thousand TEU-s in the first operational year. Despite the economic crisis, within the first half of 2009, DCT had handled more than in the whole of 2008. The trust and cooperation DCT enjoys from various customers is a confirmation of the unique potential of DCT Gdansk terminal.

Feeder Ship in Service, Hamburg to Finland

The feeder ship A La Marine was welcomed at the Port of Hamburg’s terminals on 8 June 2009 for the first time. Built at the Peene Shipyard in Wolgast, which belongs to the Hegemann Group, the ship measures 557.7 ft in length and 82 ft in width and has a cargo carrying capacity of 1440 TEUs, as well as 316 connections for refrigerated containers (reefers). The new ship belongs to the fleet of the Belgian shipping company Delphis. Since being delivered it has been in service in the Baltic region for Delphis subsidiary Team Lines, one of the leading European operators of feeder services.

Another Feeder Service from Hamburg

A new regular feeder service of the Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) shipping company now links Hamburg with St. Petersburg. Every 14 days the feeder ship Robert puts in at the container terminals of the Port of Hamburg as required. The service is offered by HHM in partnership with Team Lines, a subsidiary of the Belgian shipping company Delphis. Finnlines Discusses Financial Prospects

New Ireland Service

AC Forwarding and Hudig Veder en Dammers will start their own shortsea service between Rotterdam and Ireland, called “AC Ireland Line”. The first sailing to Warrenpoint and Dublin is on November 12. DCT Gdansk celebrates Phase 1 completion

The completion of the first phase of development of Poland’s new deepwater container terminal, DCT Gdansk, was celebrated yesterday with a reception onboard the cruise vessel Lady Assa. DCT Gdansk management and directors were joined by public, city and port officials, representatives from the international shipping community, and civil engineers involved in the construction process as the vessel sailed from her berth at Motlawa in Gdansk’s ‘old town’ to DCT Gdansk’s 650m of completed quay. With Phase One of the terminal development up and running, DCT Gdansk recently announced weekly calls by leading global container line CMA CGM and feeder specialist Team Lines, while Lithuania-based feeder operator ISN has also initiated a weekly call between DCT Gdansk and Kaliningrad.

Team Lines to Call at DCT Gdansk

DCT Gdansk SA, developer of Poland’s newest deepwater port facility, has signed a contract with major Baltic feeder line Team Lines, under which the carrier has confirmed its intention to initiate regular calls at the terminal to meet increasing cargo volumes and customer interest. DCT Gdansk is scheduled to begin operations from June 1 with two post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and three rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes. New road and rail links connecting DCT Gdansk to Poland’s transport infrastructure are already in place.
