Hyundai Merchant Marine Forms Consortium with MSC, Hapag-Lloyd and ONE
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) announced that it has established a consortium with global liners, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, and ONE to launch joint services between Asia and west coast of South America. Previously, HMM operated three Asia-west coast of South America services with MSC, CMA-CGM, Hamburg Süd, Hapag-Lloyd, APL, and CSCL. The newly reorganized ‘Asia-west coast of South America’ joint services will connect Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan with the west coast of Mexico, Peru, Chile, Columbia through three loops starting at the beginning of April.
First US LNG Shipment Goes to China
The first liquefied natural gas vessel from the lower 48 U.S. states is on its way to China, according to a Reuters interactive map on Friday, the latest sign that the expanded Panama Canal is allowing U.S. exports to reach the world's top LNG buyers in Asia. Royal Dutch Shell's Maran Gas Apollonia loaded up with gas at Cheniere Energy Inc's Sabine Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana, the map showed. It passed through the canal earlier this week and was moving northwest up the west coast of Mexico on Friday afternoon.

In late February, 2009, the RAstar 3200 Class tug Monterrey was delivered to the Owners Servicios Marítimos de Baja California, S. de R.L de C.V. of Mexico by the builders Union Naval Valencia (UNV) of Valencia, Spain. Servicios Marítimos de Baja California, S. de R.L de C.V. is a joint venture between Moran Towing of the USA and Grupo Boluda of Spain. This tug is the first of four expressly designed to work at the Costa Azul LNG terminal on the north-west coast of Mexico, at a terminal exposed to fully developed Pacific swells.

Sempra Energy and Shell Propose to Develop Mexican LNG Receiving Terminal
Shell International Gas Limited (Shell) and Sempra Energy LNG Corp., an affiliate of Sempra Energy, (NYSE:SRE), today announced their intention to form a 50/50 joint venture to build, own and operate a $600 million liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal in Baja California, Mexico. The terminal is to be located in Costa Azul on the west coast of Mexico, approximately 14 miles north of Ensenada and will be capable of supplying 1 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas per day. Shell and Sempra Energy LNG Corp. will share the investment costs of the terminal equally and each will take 50 percent of the capacity in the terminal. Approximately 500 million cubic feet per day of natural gas from the terminal will be used to meet the growing energy demands in western Mexico.
