Seaway System Tonnage Continues Upswing

Working Cargo in the Port of Milwaukee

The St. Lawrence Seaway reported that year-to-date cargo shipments of more than 24 million metric tons moved through the system for the period March 28 to September 30 – an increase of nearly 5 percent over September 2013. U.S. grain continued its upward trend posting a 14.6 percent increase over the same time last year. “Cargo tonnage moved through the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System during the month of September continues to be robust and reflects positively on the economy and the shipping industry,” said Administrator Betty Sutton of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.

The Port of Detroit welcomed the arrival of the ocean going vessel, Federal Yukina as it arrived at the Nicholson Terminal & Dock Company, located at 4105 West Jefferson Ave. in Detroit. First Ship Opens Detroit's Shipping Season

Monday, April 20, 2009, the Port of Detroit welcomed the arrival of the ocean going vessel, Federal Pride, at 6:00 p.m. at the Nicholson Terminal & Dock Company. The ship's arrival began the port's 2009 shipping season. The Federal Pride, a Cyprus flagged vessel, set sail on April 3, 2009 from Teesport, United Kingdom and Antwerp, Belgium with a cargo of steel. The ship, 470 ft long with a 75 ft beam, sailed under the command of Captain Maciej A. Adamiak. Limassol, Cyprus is its home port. Olinek will present the coveted J.L. Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority Welcomes M/V Brunto

Wednesday, April 3, 2002, marks the official opening of the Port of Detroit's international shipping season. The Port of Detroit welcomed its first ocean-going vessel of the 2002 shipping season, the Norwegian vessel, M/V Brunto. It arrived at 7:00 a.m. at Nicholson Terminal & Dock Co. in River Rouge. The M/V Brunto set sail from Pasajes, Spain on March 15 with a cargo of steel products. The Norwegian flagged ship is 479 feet long with a 64 foot beam. Bergen, Norway is its home port.
