Navy League Honors Retired Ingalls President

Irwin F. Edenzon, the retired president of Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division, accepted the Navy League of the United States' Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award last night. The Navy League presented the award at the annual Sea-Air-Space Black Tie Reception and Banquet at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The Nimitz award honors an industry leader who has made a major contribution to the nation's maritime strength or enhanced national security.

HII Annual ‘5K on the Causeway’ Raises $12,000

Huntington Ingalls Industries' informs that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division raised $12,000 for Special Olympics of Mississippi at the company's third annual "5K on the Causeway" on Saturday. "It was a great turnout with more than 700 participants this year," said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls' vice president of human resources and administration. "We have a faithful contingent that continues to return every year, and that demonstrates our employees' dedication to a healthier lifestyle. All of that hard work and enthusiasm creates a very special event that raises money for a very special organization. The money raised by the 5K adds to the $30,000 Ingalls has given to Special Olympics of Mississippi in 2014.

Ingalls Shipbuilding Donates to Special Olympics of Mississippi

Huntington Ingalls Industries say they recently donated $25,000 to Special Olympics of Mississippi. The check was presented at an event in Jackson and will help with travel expenses for Mississippi athletes and families to attend the Special Olympics USA Games, which will take place in June in New Jersey. "Ingalls Shipbuilding fully supports the Special Olympics, and this donation will go a long way in providing these Mississippi athletes and their family members what they need to be able to compete in the national games," said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Irwin F. Ingalls Shipbuilding Adds Warehousing Acreage

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division has purchased property in Moss Point where the former 84 Lumber was located. The acquisition of the property closed on Jan. 31. “This purchase is another component of our strategy to consolidate facilities,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Irwin F. Edenzon. “The 84 Lumber property gives us a single, large footprint in relatively close proximity to our production activities and will allow us to receive, store and deploy material more efficiently. It also allows us to reduce the number of warehouse facilities we maintain at different locations around town. The 12.26-acre property will be used mainly for warehousing.

Ingalls Awards Nearly $108,000 in School Grants

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has awarded nearly $108,000 in grants for 25 different projects from schools and educational organizations in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The grants, which were requested by all of the organizations, will be used for projects associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This is the sixth year for Ingalls' STEM program. The company has awarded more than $500,000 for STEM-related projects during that period.

Cuccias to Succeed Edenzon as Ingalls President

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that Irwin F. Edenzon will retire on Dec. 1, 2014. Edenzon is currently corporate vice president and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Although Edenzon will not officially retire until December 2014, he will step down as president on March 31, 2014, and the HII Board of Directors has elected Brian Cuccias to succeed Edenzon in the position of corporate vice president and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding, effective April 1, 2014.

Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division officially opened the company's brand-new, 70,000 square-foot Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The building, named for the former Mississippi governor, will serve as the training epicenter for Ingalls' apprentice program and will also help bolster the number of students. Ingalls Authenticates the Keel of New Destroyer

Ingalls to Close Gulfport Facility Due to Reduction in Navy Builds

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today the closure of its Gulfport Composite Center of Excellence in Gulfport, Miss. "This is a difficult but necessary decision," said HII President and CEO Mike Petters. "Due to the reduction in the Zumwalt-class (DDG 1000) ship construction and the recent U.S. Navy decision to use steel products on Lyndon B. Current work being performed at Gulfport is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2014, with closure expected by May 2014.

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding has authenticated the keel of the company's 11th amphibious transport dock ship, Portland (LPD 27). U.S. Marine Corps Gen. James Amos, commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and principal speaker for the ceremony, noted the first-in-class USS San Antonio (LPD 17) was presently off the coast of Yemen alongside another Ingalls-built ship, USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). "That lead ship of this great warship class, with its Marines, is serving the Navy and our nation very proudly today," Gen. Amos said. "It's in harm's way as we speak.

Huntington Ingalls Industries held graduation ceremonies for Ingalls Shipbuilding's Apprentice School at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention Center, to celebrate the accomplishments of 60 students representing Ingalls' various crafts. Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann was the keynote speaker and acknowledged the graduates' commitments. "In addition to the commitments you've made to Mississippi, Ingalls and your families, Mississippi has made a commitment to you," he said. Navy to Commission LPD 24 'Arlington'

The Navy set to commission the newest San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship, 'Arlington'. The ship is named for the county of Arlington and honors the first responders and the 184 victims who died when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon Sept. 11, 2001. Ingalls Shipbuilding to Design, Build LHA 7 for US Navy

The U.S. Navy today awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries a $2.38 billion fixed-price-incentive contract for the detail design and construction of the multipurpose amphibious assault ship Tripoli (LHA 7). The ship will be built at the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. LHA 7 and LHA 6 are the first two ships in the new America class of amphibious assault ships. Tripoli will be 844 feet long and 106 feet wide and will displace 44,971 long tons. The fuel-efficient gas turbine propulsion system will drive the ships in excess of 20 knots.

Ingalls Shipbuilding authenticates the keel of U.S. Coast Guard National Security Cutter 'Hamilton' (WMSL 753) with sponsor's intitials welded in. Mrs. Linda Kapral Papp, wife of Adm. Robert J. Papp Jr., commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, is the ship's sponsor. Her initials were welded on a keel plate that will be part of the ship as long as it remains in the operational fleet. Ingalls has delivered three NSCs, the flagships of the Coast Guard's cutter fleet. They are designed to replace the 378‐foot Hamilton-class high-endurance cutters, which entered service during the 1960s.

The multi-purpose amphibious assault ship America (LHA 6) built by Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division. is the first in a new class, and the fourth U.S. Navy vessel to be named America, extending a legacy dating back to 1861. Ingalls has built 13 amphibious assault ships: five in the Tarawa (LHA 1) class and eight in the Wasp (LHD 1) class.
