ABS Council Adds Members

At the recent ABS Council meeting, 31 prominent members of the shipping and offshore industries were elected as new members of the prominent international classification society. The ABS Council also elected seven new members to the society’s Technical Committee. “Our strength as a classification society is the breadth of experience and depth of wisdom of our membership,” said ABS Chairman & CEO Robert D. Foss Unveils New Management Structure

The Foss Maritime Company has created three new management positions aimed at strengthening its safety, compliance and environmental programs. Frank Williamson has been promoted to vice president, safety, quality and general counsel. Formerly Foss’ general counsel, Williamson will take on new responsibilities in health, safety, compliance and quality assurance. He will oversee the team responsible for developing and implementing safety and environmental programs. Susan Hayman, who spearheaded the development of Foss’ hybrid-powered, low-emissions tug due to enter service this fall, will become vice president for environmental and corporate development.

New Foss Exec to Support Oil and LNG Projects

Mike O’Shea has been hired as Foss Maritime Company’s Vice President of Oil Field Services, a new position that reports to Foss’ president and chief operating officer. The new position was developed to meet Foss’ current and future oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) customers’ needs and support large oil and gas projects in Alaska and other remote locations around the globe. O’Shea will be located in Anchorage, Alaska, to allow hands-on oversight and management of Alaska-based oil and LNG projects. O’Shea, who has been on the job since November 15, has over 20 years of marine transportation experience. He most recently handled sales and operations management for major projects throughout Alaska and on the North Slope as director of business development for Crowley Maritime Corporation.

Foss to Build Hybrid Tug

Foss Maritime Company plans to build the world’s first hybrid tugboat, a green vessel that is designed to reduce nitrogen oxide, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and carbon emissions. It will also consume less fuel and be quieter than its conventional predecessors. Officials of the Seattle-based marine services company say the project must still gain final board approval. But the decision to move forward with the hybrid tug got a boost earlier this week as the Port of Los Angeles pledged $850,000 to the project, in association with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, and the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners preliminarily approved a $500,000 contribution to the vessel’s construction. Foss Maritime Unveils New Web Site

Foss Maritime Company, a Seattle-based marine services company specializing in worldwide marine transportation and logistics, announced that it is launching an updated web site at www.foss.com. The web site will feature a new logo—the first new Foss logo in over twenty years. Foss has announced a number of new developments over the past year, most recently announcing Gary C. Faber as its new President & COO. Other developments included expansion into the US East Coast with the acquisition of Constellation Tug Company; improved range of services to include marine logistics and full-service naval architecture with the acquisition of Harbor Marine Group; and an enhanced focus on safety and the environment with the hire of its first Vice President of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment.
